I've recently noticed that the gearbox to driveshaft oil seal is leaking slightly. I'm hoping it's a relatively easy job. Anyone had a go and can pass on their experiences?

Aye, it's easy enough in-situ. Drain the 'box first or you'll have the oil up your sleeve biggrin

Exhaust silencer off, disconnect propshaft, hold flange (length of steel bar with two bolts through it), undo nut, prise out seal, drive in new seal, replace nut etc etc.

Thanks Ian, That's good news - and what I was hoping for!

Cheers,

I don't think it is as easy as that. I tried doing it with the gearbox out and struggled. I'd be surprised if it can be done in situ. I got sorted by default when the box was refurbed. I wish you luck....!

That's what I was originally worried about Andy. Part of me thinks I should live with the weeping seal rather than try the job with the box in situ and risk end up with an unusable car.

I used to regularly cure leaking motorcycle fork leg seals by wiping and cleaning the seal face around with a thin feeler gauge. I might try it on the gearbox seal before trying to take it apart.

My gut feeling is that it will be relatively easy to replace...
