No idea mate

But I know the remote linkage bushes can be problematic?

Karl.

Hmmm I wish I knew what that was!?
Is that something that can be repaired, without having to recon the whole gearbox?

I am sure one of the proper experts will be along in a minute, but with my limited experience it sounds like a bent selector fork, if you take the gaiter off the gear lever can you see the top of the box?

The LT77 uses a remote lever linkage. You can buy some replacement poly or rubber bushes to replace worn old ones. I've only driven three Wedges.

Mine feels like a normal gear change, very clear and precise and obvious which gear your in. This has rubber bushes but they look in good order. Must be some of the very few bushes I've not replaced

The other 2 were 400se's both boxes felt like mixing bowls with big wooden spoons sticking out of them. No idea what gear you were in until you got used to it?

Not sure if this is normal and mine is the odd one out.

They look a bit of a Bu&&er to replace?

Not sure if this is your issue. But if you look in the FAQ section Adam has a post about clutch replacement and I think he has a pic of the linkage?

Good luck

I once had this after parking on a hill with handbrake shot so left it in gear. I had to drive 20 miles stuck in 4th but kept trying on the move and eventually it came out and was fine ever after.

Firstly I'd change the gearbox oil. Mine used to stick in 4th/ 5th after a long run. Changing to Castrol SMX-S fixed this.

When I had problems with gear selection it turned out to be the remote linkage bushes. £20 and a couple of hours DIY to chage.

Ah hope that's the case guys.. It's booked in fit a full respray next month, so can't really afford for big repairs at the moment
May have to get a transmission specialist to have a look, I will mention what you guys have said, to make home think I know what I'm talking about ha..

Sounds a bit like a clutch fault..Is the reservoir topped up..Is it leaking anywhere?..Air in the system can cause the actuator rod to seize up in the slave cylinder..You could try bleeding it to see if any air comes out or free's it up..Ziga

Cheers Ziga,it would go back into neutral once the engine was off though wouldn't it?
Something says to me that, the clutch wouldn't come into play?
I may be wrong if coarse.
Reservoir seems pretty topped up.
Will change gearbox oil to start I think.
However it seems pretty jammed in there,
But like I say drives fine!?

Have you tried lifting the gear lever up? If there is movement can you now select other gears?
If so it is likely to be the remote linkage bushes, easy and cheap to change

Mixing bowl and spoon sound more like mine to be honest.
Certainly compared to my day to day car!

Hi Rik
Am pretty sure there not all the same mate, try and locate one from a rover vitesse and you should be fine, if i was you, i would check the oil level first and then the gear linkage before you start buying mate as hopefully it could be an easy fix, good luck

Thanks Ralph, is the gear linkage relatively straight forward then?
Yeah I've been looking and it needs to be SD1 R380 or LT77
Hopefully your right, it does just seem like something like that,
We will see,

Thanks again Ralph

Ps been having a right to do with the chap at Gliptone about colour matching.
Think I'm gonna save and recover doors and centre console in Leather.

Sorry mate as not done any gearbox work as yet, but the oil change sounds pretty easy and the linkage cant surely be that bad as you have the console removed anyway, so would have thought buy removing the gearstick gatter should give you access, bad news about the colour matching mate, what i have always done is cut a small section off the seats and sent it to dynamix to match, which they have always got right, if your gonna re-cover i would always try and pull off the original bit and use as a template, that way you can be asured its right, good luck, lets hope its an easy fix, cheers

Yeah I will have a play Friday eve I think,
And yeah I'm starting to wish I'd used Dynamix, on there website the actually have my Alfa seat colour ready mixed!
I'm getting a quote off a trimmer and if that's top heavy may see how easy it is to remove the original and if it is, I'll have a go I think.

Looking forward to seeing yours back in situ!

Ah right yeah, I can see that with the inner rubber gator removed,
I guess it's just what to do with it, I have a friend if a friend I'm hoping may pop over this weekend and have a quick look,
Here's hoping!

Thanks again for your help Ralph.
