A frame hub madness

Decided not to sell my 280i after all, even after a test drive of a very sexy V8s, and I am adamant on doing an A frame rear upgrade, for erm, educational purposes you understand.
Would I be right in thinking that the A frame hubs could be made by taking a trailing arm hub and cutting off the box section bit ? If so this would be great, as one of my box sections is more like a bannana (I got it off a mates previously totaled 350i ).
