Apologies for the question as I'm sure it has been answered before but I can't find it and I don't yet have a full set of literature which might give me the answer.

I have to replace a pipe on the power steering on NEO ('89 350i). I have measured the pipe which is about 8mm, so 5/16" I assume. Can someone tell me what union nut I need for this. It is one of the short pipes which seems to go from teh rack back to the rack. I assume it's 5/16 but is it BSP or something else?

Help please.

BTW am planning to get myself to BBWF. I've cleared it with She how must be obeyed so I look forward to seeing some of you lot and pawing over your cars to learn lots!!!

Cheers

Adrian

Hi Mate..You probably have what's called a supra rack which was TVR engineering ..If you can take the pipe off completley you should be able to take it to a hydraulic engineers to match up the fittings..Ziga

Thanks.

I was hoping I could get all pipe and fittings and then remove the pipe and make up the new one in an afternoon.

Guess I might have to take it off and measure it and then put it back on so that the car remains up and running until I get the parts. Just adds another job which I thought I could get away without! Lazy, me!!

You might be able to it that way..Or if you can drive it to someone who does the fittings so they can see what you need..Ideally someone who refurbs steering racks...Ziga

Just seen this Adrian - I thought the pipe/connections were fixed when you picked the car up?? Really annoying if not after several days and £££ in the garage....

All the best with her mate...
