Hi all,

Have had an annoying oil leak for sometime (a few drops of reddish oil on the garage floor)and after giving the engine a good clean (which seemed to be smothered) have traced it back to PAS pump. Firstly, I believe from the wedge bible it's a Ford pump, but does anyone know anything more specific ie which ford model and yr it's from?

Secondly not sure whether it's worth p*ssing about trying to get it reconditioned so if anyone can suggest where I can buy one it would be much appreciated.

Regards
Paul

It it low down at front left of engine possibly with a blue reservoir lid? Reservoir on top of pump.
If so I have seen maestro / montego pumps that look very similar - seen brand new old stock on ebay for a tenner.

Hi Paul

I thought the pump was in fact from a SDI

A Ford pump was used on the 280i

Didn't sell so you could try cross referencing that part number on rimmers.

Actually not stupid money at rimmers which is a surprise

Hi Mate..Is it this one?..The 280i has a Montego pump but i think the V8's had a Rover SD1 type as the filler neck was longer..Ziga

Probably cost around 70 squids to refurb..

Thanks to all, helpful as ever!

Was bit suprised to read in the WB that it was a Ford part, but then as the column etc are ford, kind of made sense. The price on Rimmer bros. looks reasonable enough so I'll go for that.

Best

Paul

Be interesting to know what the quality is like and if it holds up,was going to buy one myself but started thinking about it when chatting with someone else in here that quality has been a bit suspect with cheap imports, maybe worth considering a refurb of the old one, good luck with it. John.

Check out the PAS pumps from the Sherpa van, I am sure it was a B/Leyland part. What you may find when you fit the original pulley is that by fitting washers as spacers at the pump fixing points will bring it into line with the other puleys.

Would be boring if it was easy wouldn't it? So having hastily ordered a pump it seems they do 3 different types...so have put my order on hold to see if I can locate a part number or something...

Regarding the Sherpa pump, have looked into this and have to say it looks nothing like the one in my car - which is as near as damn it the SD1 pump albeit with a black cap.

Will keep you posted of further developments...

One more thing...can anyone recommend somewhere that makes up the copper piping for the steering rack? While I was down there (so to speak), I noticed that one of mine has a very deep groove in it which I'm surprised isn't leaking as well... all the pipes look pretty messy ... actually I've heard talk of these being replaced with braided items, anyone got any experience of this?

many thanks
P
