Maybe this is the cause of delilahs short of breath!!

Hi Peeps..I think i may of hit on why the car is not working properly..With the help of ralph..Cheers mate..If you look at this picture you can see a pipe coming off the filler cap..It has been plumbed into the airbox below the sensor plate..Why i dont know..I have a breather going from the plenum to the rocker cover anyway..I did also see a tiny puff of blue/grey smoke when they revved it hard out of the left bank exhaust..I reckon the sensor plate is being pulled downward when idling causing the car to stall and when the pressure is maximised by the blower the sensor plate is being lifted as it should be only to be pulled down again when lifting off the throttle..On the picture that i have for the sierra it has a basic filler cap with no breathers or pipe connected to anything!..It has the same plenum to rocker cover breather..Does this make sense please...Cheers...Ziga

PS:I also notice that the idling oil pressure reading was on 70 instead of 30?..

Mark could be an issue and fits your comment of potential over pressure. I cannot think of any reason why you would want S/C pressure being applied to the top of the engine via the breather??? Clamp it off and try it, 5 min job to see if it changes things..
As mentioned last night speak to your SC experts and see what they can do / costs involved. The other thing would be to find the various hot rod forums as there will be a few blower experts on there who will have some comment?
Remember you are on step 2 of 20 in terms of developing this system it was never going to be an out of the box type job!!!!
Cheers
Chris
Morning Mark
Sorry mate I missed you call, as feel asleep last night lol.
Ive seen the amount off suction that supercharger produces mate and for that to be connected in any way to the engine breather imo is wrong, the fact is that any intake requires as much cold air as possible, not oily hot air being sucked into the system which would make it run like crap, good luck mate, my fingers are crossed for you, cheers, Ralph

Cheers guys..I have had a sleepless night because of this..I hope it hasnt caused any irreparable damage to the engine or blower!..The air being suck through from that pipe is un-filtered and like you say..Oily and hot and this may have a detremental effect on the condition of the fuel being burnt..As the pipe is pre-sensor plate i reckon it accounts for..
1. Would account for the shyte running/Stalling on throttle lift.
2. Would explain the puff of blue/grey smoke coming out of the exhaust under heavy throttle.
3. Would explain why the supercharger has started making a grinding noise from the main body.
I will call power engineering ASAP to confirm my fears...Cheers...Ziga

Cheers Chris..I will mate and if the garage has damaged either engine or blower then they will have to cough up and quick as i now feel like im not going to make the fest!..Cheers..Ziga
Morning markFlush the oil out of the blower and change mate, as it could have drawn up some crap from the engine, good luck, Ralph
Right just spoke to power engineering and they say..NOT GOOD!..He also said they would not run it on the dyno due to the noise the rotors are making!..The garage may of damaged them by ill-fitting!..And the oil breather into the airbox may well be the culprit..The blower has EP80W oil in the reservoir but the noise is coming from the rotors!..The oily air has probably coated the rotors which is causing the puff of smoke from the exhaust..Initially the blower was smooth and quiet...Cheers..Ziga

My other toy with an Eaton (Roots type) supercharger uses special "jet turbine" oil, very expensive at £20 for 200ml. It's quite difficult to source in the UK, I found some at a Jag main dealers.
If your bearings have got damaged as long as the rotors haven't touched they can be changed relatively easily on the Eaton supercharger. Some owners send them to the USA to be refurbed as superchargers are so much more common over there it works out cheaper even with the shipping costs.
I cant't remember what make supercharger you have but principles are probably the same.

Hi Danny..Mine is a sprintex S102, I have spoken to the garage who did the install and he is going to check valve clearances and inspect the dizzy that came with the kit..He said that it could be a fault with the internals/Weights of the dizzy..Its recommended to use the EP80 for the lubrication but does state klubber grease for the bearings which is around 100sobs for a 400gr tube!..Fingers crossed they find out why its doing what it shouldnt be...Cheers..Ziga
Mark
Sounds like a few problems have occaured mate.
This was bound to happen as you were trying something new which had not been tried as far as we know.
Also remember the system your are fitting was second hand so there maybe a problem from the previous owner which is now coming to light!
But keep at it mate you will get there.
You have plenty of time till the fest.
The worst thing is you have to have the S/C removed and you are back to a standard 280i but with better heads etc!
So keep looking on the bright side!
Andy

Thanks Andy..As much as it is frustrating it is new ground like you say and not as straight forward as i would like it to be..Nothing ever is..But i will keep the faith and if need be will revert back to the standard engine set up..Although the old heads will need converted to unleaded as the new ones have had the compression lowered so wont be ideal..Either way its going to cost about the same so i might as well stick with it. I also hope there is nothing drastically wrong with the blower itself as the seller might of got rid due to it having knackered bearings!..That would be a right pain..Fingers crossed that they can sort it soon as im missing out on all this lovely sunshine..Cheers..Ziga
Hi Martin..No worries mate..Dont worry about paying for the info..You can buy me a coffee when you get yours back and we can meet at the bottom of zig zag road..
Well peeps i think the problem with Delilah is possibly fuelling and a possible dizzy fault..I..(Dimwit)..Thought..(You know what thought did)..That i had a WUR built with boost in mind!..WRONG!..After speaking with matey at KMI he assured me that the one he built for me was for a standard engine but is now going to build me a 3 stage one that he used to supply to power engineering for the S/C projects..The distributor might have a fault with the vacuum or weights, Hopefully the latter as then the vacuum unit can be fitted to another dizzy..If not then i believe they were fitted to SAAB's..Not sure if it was the carlson turbo's..But should be easy enough to source..The pipe on the oil filler is wrong as the kit was designed to have an atmospheric breather..Although it did have 2 X Vacuum pipes...One was from the throttle body and one was from the plenum, They then went into a "Y" piece with a one-way valve on the throttle side..This helps the dizzy to recognise idle to Full boost..I think its going to be ok...Please TVR gods..Please...Ziga

Hi Phil..Originally the V6 cologne 2.8i was a reported but controversal 160bhp, Probably 150bhp was more realistic..The Tasmin figures varied from 150-160bhp with 160lb/ft of torque..The figures for the sierra 2.8i V6 cologne was measured at 251bhp and 300lbs/ft of torque after the sprintex was fitted and thats only running on low boost..4-6psi..The guy that i chat to who has a supercharged sierra had his on the dyno and it came out at 233bhp and around 260lb/ft of torque..Although he has a somewhat worn and tired engine and a heavy 4 door metal shell to drag around!..So delilah should be nearer the earlier quoted figures..I will be happy with anything over 200bhp...The crank pulley can be changed to max to full boost but that would make the wedge a bit of a mare to handle me thinks...
