I think you'll find that the 400SE is more the top end of the Wedge market and consequently us 400SE owners tend to look after our cars. You may be better off buying something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TVR-Wedge-/221236839271?...
and converting it to a 400SE.

what a load of tosh, just because you have a higher spec car does not mean you look after it any better than someone with a lesser spec, I have seen plenty of 280`s, 350`s and 390`s that are in a lot better condition than some of the 400`s 450`s and dare I say seac`s. I thought that the I am better than you crowd did not exist around the wedges but it obviously does. Kind of reminds me of the I know my place sketch from the two Ronnies with John Cleese. Rant over must go and do the 1,500 mile oil change on my poorly maintained shed of a 350i

I think you'll find Tony (Elvis) buys the type of car you are looking for, then does them up a bit and sells them on. not so much well looked after as improved.

Well, I suppose you could say that. You see, I am sort of like the RSPCA for Wedges. If I see any that have been mistreated, I buy them and give them the love and attention they deserve. I enjoy driving them, and owning them until I find them a new loving owner. One day, when the right one comes along, I will keep it forever, though it may not necessarily be a Wedge, because I do have this burning desire to be a proud owner of a Tuscan. If it is a Wedge that I keep, it would have to be nearer the top end of the Wedge models. Until then, the search goes on.

There are scruffy examples of 400SE, mines one of them it looks great from a few feet but in reality its hell of a way from concourse. It's a Cat D rebuild so the price was lower than for a minter but mechanically it's pretty good and came with bills for £7K and I got her for just under 5K (2008), so cheaper wedges are out there with decent history. I wanted a car I could have fun with and drive more than I polish so if she gets another stone chip well it's no big deal.

If you wanted perfection she needs a full respray, hood, carpet set etc etc, most of which will get done eventually but as I said above I'd rather drive a sports car than polish it, that said I did break out the polish yesterday !

If you wait I'm sure something will come up but keep in mind you are looking for one of the rarest wedge models and as previous posters have commented a lot people hang onto them, me included I lost my house in a recent divorce but kept hold of my 400 !

Here, here, and so say all of us biggrin
Well, I certainly agree anyway.
Like you mine needs a respray, carpet set, the interior is shocking to be honest but then I love driving it (390 SE) and the sound is absolutely awesome. And does it go or what biggrin
Which reminds me, on entering the M25 on wednesday evening I thought I would roughly see how quick it accelerates from 30mph. Hit 80mph in roughly 7 seconds (using the very scientific method of "one thousand......two thousand.......three thousand......." rofl )changing from 2nd to 3rd.
Is that good for a 390 or not ???
What do other owners think.
It does need a bit of a tune up too.

Regards to all.........

Yep mine could also do with a respray to eradicate the crazing in the lacquer once the hairline stress cracks have been sorted if course around the lightpods, and yes the interior needs attention too, maybe there's a bit of competition for 'rat' car this year? Chassis is good and everything seems to work.

I think the condition of the Wedge 'beario' is looking for, would only make it to the fest on the back of a trailer, or trailers. That way the price would be enormously attractive. I wish him good luck in his search.

Hi Around christmas time I was in contact with Hillclimbmaniac looking to buy a 390 he had. It was too much for me to take on at the time as it had the engine removed and needed paint etc. I think he had an engine for it (not tvr ). Its not a 400 and may have gone now as its a while ago but might be worth trying to contact him.
Good luck smile

nono..TUT TUT...Thats a bit naughty Tony..(Only just read this thread)..I could quite easily afford the red seac or a 450se or a 400se and TBH as nice as they are there are still things i would change about them but that is personal preference..I have come along way with delilah and she is my pride and joy and probably now quicker than some V8's..Yes she still needs a fair bit of work to make her perfect for me and i will probably only see a third back of what she has cost me if i ever wanted to sell her..I could also afford to buy tired wedges and do them up to sell but im not out to make money on my friends and again TBH there is no garauntee that even after all the hard work that nothing will go wrong after the sale and i wouldnt want that on my conscience..Cars are like women..You can either have one thats a little rough around the edges but is a whole lot of fun and ok she might drink a bit and not wear the best clothes but she's keeping it real...OR you can have a high maintenance stuck up cow who is boring...Rigid..Never smiles in case she cracks her face and who really wants to be put on a pedestal and admired for her self acclaimed beauty..Guess what..(Sorry for being crude)..st stinks no matter where it comes from so for me i would rather have fun...And keep it real...Forced segregation is a bad thing...Self segregation is even worst!...Wedges bring people together and if they start becoming a "Wedge" between us then i will call it a day...Ziga

Zig, I know you take your cars very seriously, and your women for that matter, but I was merely trying to point out, without causing too much offence, that you get what you pay for. There is not much point in putting out a thread asking for a Wedge that needs a bit of work, for peanuts, then sitting back and waiting, because it's not going to happen. We have to go out there and find the car that suits our purpose, whatever that may be, at a price that suits our pockets. Believe me, I've had a lot of bangers in my time and I've had a lot of fun with them. So it's not our financial status that matters but how much effort we are prepared to put into achieving what we want. So, no offence intended and that is just my opinion. Others may see it differently.

Hi Tony

Even if it came in on a couple of Trailers it would still be worth at least £4 + K

The 400SE is not the rarest Wedge as there were 242 made,

I wonder how many are still left?

There are at present for sale on PH & F-bay 2 cars and with the two at the fest there are not many for sale at present!

Sorry Tony im not having a go at you mate...I just feel that a wedge is a car that was made to be enjoyed even if it looks tatty or even breaks down or needs loads of money spent on it..I know some people go through wedges like shoes but for me i have found my love/passion and what it has done for me is worth more than i have or will spend on it..Delilah was essentially a barn find as she was locked up for 11 years in a dark garage..She has been brought back to life and treated special by me as i feel she deserves it..Yes i have plodded away for the last three years which has been a very trying time for me but i knew this when i decided to take it on..I had a very tight budget and had to sacrifice beer..women..New clothes..Even food sometimes...Well the caviar at least...So yes it has been a struggle but thats life...There are some good wedges out there for good money and then there are wedges out there that are potentially good for the money..I think it's horses for courses..You could buy a wedge for 2.5k and then spend 3-4K on doing it up..Sell it for 4-5K and probably still lose money..Or buy one that cost's 5-6K and just drive it and maintain it..But at some point it will need money spent on it...The limit is set by the owner..I very nearly gave up half way through but its like trying to chase a rolling ball once you have let it go downhill..I have become very passionate about delilah and even my mother who i love very very much wouldnt dare say a bad word about her...hehe...I love all TVR's but personally love the wedge and for what it represents..Cheers...Ziga

I have had 4 Wedges.

A 280i FHC, two 390SEs and a 400SE (that I bought twice).

All cost me loads of money...which I was happy to spend, all were totally different to each other, and all were great fun and equally missed.
