Firstly misjudged the length of the wedge trying to turn it round in a carpark after some numpty parked behind me,was doing a 3 point turn out of a space and put a nice crease and scuff in the back door of a vectra (no obvious damage to mine but I am really annoyed) and then on my way home from there my wedge decided it didnt like hills anymore and started to cut out every time I went up a steep hill, which is a bit of a st as every route to my house is uphill, finally managed to take a big run at the one steep bit on my flattest route home, it stuttered and played silly buggers but I got it home. On the driveway it ticks over nicely and revs cleanly.

Any bright ideas from about the cause?

Had something similar years ago on one of my cars turned out to be a small leak on a fuel line, car would run perfect until I went up hill then it would struggle.
May not be anything like this , but just a thought....

Not half as annoyed as the owner of the Vectra would be. I trust you left your insurance details....

I knew who it was and he was just picking his daughter up, I stayed and had a chat obviously, told him I would get my mate with the body shop to sort it for him.

I think the comment was a bit unnecessary though

It is bizarre, like I said it revs cleanly on the drive but when it is put under load it sputters and stops.
I am wondering if I have a fuel pump issue, either that or crap from the tank is sitting in a fuel line.
I guess I will be having a look at the fuel system this weekend instead of driving it frown

Sorry about that, I should have put a smiley face in....It's just your original post came over as you pranged some poor blokes car, had no damage to yours and you were annoyed.

As regards your TVR, I can't really offer any advice other than to say it's unlikely to be anything to do with the car park impact I wouldn't have thought, hopefully it will be an easy inexpensive fix, with advice from the knowledgeable gurus on here..beer

No no smoke at all.
Very weird symptom, literally one second it is pulling fine and the next it is like someone has turned a fuel tap off.
When it stopped and was pointing up hill it wouldnt restart, but when I managed to turn it around it started first time. I am hoping there isnt some crap in the fuel line or the bottom of the tank.
There is about 1/4 of a tank in there (according to the gauge) so I might try and top it up just to make sure it isnt a gauge issue and I am really running out of petrol lol

I am suffering from a bit of sense of humour failure tonight so I didnt take that very well,
I am incredibly angry at myself for bumping the poor sods car and not impressed (again with myself) that I am going to have to spend money fixing his car that could have been put in the wedge fettling pot

The little knock is nothing to do with the other issue, it had hesitated on the way there but it seemed ok after, with hindsight the fault was obviously starting then but we are all wise in hindsight.

For gawd's sake it was only a Vectra, ten a penny, main thing is that the Wedge was undamaged.

I had some strange occurrence on a TiTT run where it would cut out when going into a tunnel - usually downhill. Maybe related to the cooling having burped fluid out earlier in the run.

But your case seems more extreme. Have you got a slope nearby you can park it on and investigate?

Like you say, sounds like a lack of fuel pressure somewhere, cruddy fuel filter, blocked fuel feed from fuel pump, fuel pump problem, fuel regulator problem etc.?
I think you are right regarding a dodgy fuel pump, would make sense especially if it is worse going up hill, gravity then takes effect and I suppose a dodgy fuel pump would find it harder pumping enough fuel into the fuel rail going up hill more so then on a flat road.
Of course, I could be talking complete Bcensoreds !!! eek as I am by no means a mechanic but just very enthusiastic biggrin

Have you also checked your throttle pot and the CTS ?

The fuel guages on Wedges (and other TVRs as well)are probably the most unreliable part, Andy.

My first thought would be to put in a gallon of petrol and see if that cures it.
Simple and cheap (well not that cheap with all the tax and duties on petrol!!! haha).

My mechanical knowledge stops there tho' I'm afraid

Not lacking in slopes, I live on the top of a hill in yorkshire!

Joking apart my drive slopes up from the road then flattens out to where I park the wedge, if I park it on the slope I can have a look at it.

Hi mate...I did this after i had managed to sort my starting issues out..Some dickbrain just pulled out and sat there staring at me as i tried swerving round him..I hit a traffic island!..Then he tries to drive off!..I was well pished i can tell ya..ranting..

Another learning curve all together with fibreglass repair!..Maybe the seats are too low..I couldnt see over my bonnet when i first got mine and they do have a rather long bonnet..Since i have had the nissan seats in its been a blessing..Even if a bit strange seeing over the bonnet..Your fuel starving issues sound a bit like mine were in the early days..Perhaps i should put all the posts together and make it a reference guide...It could be a number of issues..Accumulator could be losing fuel pressure..Could be the fuel pump..Could be a fuel leak or crap in the system..Have you had any hot starting issues?..If the car sat for a while then there could be rust in the system..As said change the bulkhead fuel filter and check the condition of the fuel inside it..Unfortunately if that is the case then it will contaminate the whole system..Ziga

Luckily the glassfibre on a wedge is stronger than a vectra door skin!
No damage to speak of on mine.

I will have a look at the fuel filter at the weekend.
If you could put your issues together in one document please Ziga it might well be helpful to me.
I think I need to get myself a haynes manual for a v6 granada/capri for the engine stuff.
