Is this too good to be true?

I'm reluctantly selling my Wedge.. I've had an enquiry which has developed in to the following message from the potential purchaser....but is it a scam?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Message received as follows...

Hi there, Thank you for getting back to me.Can you assure me that the
vehicle is in good state and that i will not be disappointed with
it.I'm ready to pay your asking price and to be honest, i wanted to
buy this for my Dad and he is a mechanic, but the issue is I'm a
marine biologist and i do have a contract to go for which starts
tomorrow and am leaving any moment from now.The contract is strictly
no call due to the lack of reception on the sea area. But I'm able to
access email anytime as we will make use of laptop so my only quickest
payment option is PayPal as i can send money via PayPal anytime.Since
I'm requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, i will be
responsible for all the paypal fee/charges on this transaction and if
you don't have an account with paypal, its pretty easy, safe and
secured to open one. Just log on to www.paypal.com. I hope we can make
the purchase as fast as possible? I have a mover that will come for it
once payment clears and they will be handling the title for me.
So i look forward to hear from you.

Your PayPal e-Mail Address :

Firm Price:

Many Thanks

First question: does it smell like a scam?

Second question: there is no second question.

Who pays the full asking price on a classic car without any inspection or even a cursory viewing ? Strange how he's not contactable by phone but has Internet connection? Not sure how the scam would work as I thought PayPal is a pretty safe way to transfer money but alarm bells are ringing for me.

As said SCAM!! I would have a bit of fun with him .... As he has email access ask him for his Skype address as a guarantee then ask for a video chat and record it, get his contract business address and company name then do some research on line!!! Sit back and wait for the bullsh*t to start flowing! In the mean time wait for a real buyer to come along... yes

I agree

Did you see the item on the news the other day where people insert links into websites that look legitimate. They then take control of your computer.

Don't even click on the link!

Definite scam.

Cheers

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

Regarding PayPal. It's not a safe and secure as you would hope. .

My missus once sold an expensive teddy bear on ebay and was paid via PayPal. She shipped it to the buyers address in Germany. It was tracked and we had proof of delivery. The buyer told PayPal that it hadnt been received and claimed her money back from them. They paid her and took the money back out of our PayPal account straight away without even checking with us. We complained to them big style but were given the run around with bullst nonsense for several days and never but got the money back - no bear and several hundred pounds out of pocket. Ever since then, we've been wary of accepting PayPay payments on expensive items as they could just take the money off us again - hence my suspicions regarding this prospective purchase.

You've all confirmed my suspicions, so many thanks for that. I won't be going ahead, but might have a play. I will let you know what happens. Maybe the 'buyer' will be see this forum and just f@ck off.

Defo scam.paypal works like a credit card company, when you receive or make payment it can be reversed if the person says he did not authorise payment even if the address is right, I know because I had an internet business and got done on several occasions and it cost me a lot of dosh and p****d me off big style so dont do it or you could take the dosh and keep the car and make them hassle you.

Well, I asked for his Skype address, but he's now "on sea"....

"Thanks for getting back to me but the issue now is that am on sea and i can only get back to you via email and also send the payment via paypal,Paypal is very Easy,Fast and Safe.I really like the vehicle and Am buying it as a surprise package to my dad, My Dad will take care of any minor fault the vehicle may have. After your money cleared to your account the mover will come for pickup and sign the necessary document. So i will be glad to read back from you with your paypal email address and name along with your last asking price so that i can make the payment immediately"

My next move may be to tell him my date of birth wasn't 7/6/13

The scrotum must think weez all born on banana boats, talking of scrotes they had a topic on jezza vine last week about foreigners usually, acting in gangs conning people at cash machines by causing a flaff then waving a bit of paper over the card insert claiming you shouldn't use this machine coz it will swallow ya card and the next second its swallowed except it ain't coz its in the blokes hand and gone on a shopping spree, women being the main targets as they've got their handbags to fart about with, BEWARE.
