heavy steering 350i

hi all steering seems very heavy seems normal maybe to heavy for wife to drive scary. my car is an early 84 350i with i think tr 7 steering colum could it be converted to pas any help would be good . thanks mike

I know what you mean about the steering being heavy. The steering column probably it TR7, the later ones were SD1 then Granada. The steering rack is Cortina MK5. The steering joints between the column and rack I believe are specials. It would be worth checking these are free, as they can get siezed up and cause the steering get heavy.
Not sure about converting to power steering, I've heard that the chassis are different and you therefore need to mod the chassis to convert.
I would also be interested to hear if anyone has converted an early Tasmin to PS.

Straightforward enough. You just need to "adjust" the chassis slightly with a hammer to allow the rack to seat properly.As a slight diversion from topic DVLA are auctioning a good number for your car Steve
