Don't! When a man goes from a Wedge, to no wedge, he gets withdrawal symptoms. I know. I've been there.

Well I'm looking at what it's actually gonna cost to get it how I want it it, "like new"
And I don't think I justify it.
Wondering what to do.. I'm halfway through interior and its had gearbox replaced and MOTd
Etc etc...
And I do like to at least break even "IF" I sell.
Just not sure :/

Dont do it.

You will only regret it.

Whats up man, cant you do man maths?

On any sensible level I cannot justify having a TVR, I dont need it, there are other things I should be spending my money on, I am haemorrhaging money like you wouldnt believe on mine at the moment and I KNOW if I sold it now I would be very lucky to make back what I have spent on it so far, and I have a fair bit still to spend. And my wife hates it, wont go in it and doesnt even like to see it on the drive. She also complains that she is embarrassed by the amount of noise it makes driving down the street. ( I am embarrasssed by the noise too, but I think it is too quiet for a tvr!)

BUT the grin on my face when I drive it (and mines only a 280) and the looks on other peoples faces when they see such an unusual car cruising around make it all worth while.

Well to be perfectly honest a wedge is something that is not a buy..Do up and sell and make money kind of car..They need fettling and swearing at and have a habit of making you want them even more..I dont think there are many wedges that were bought cheap..Restored and then fetch a healthy profit let alone get your money back!..So far delilah has cost me double what she is worth and im not finished yet..I should imagine once i have done everything i plan it will stand me in 15K...YES i could of bought a hundred and one different cars for that money but would i of had as much fun..Frustration..Satisfaction..Met as many nice people as i have...Enjoyed the attention that she gets ALL the time..(Even when broken down)..Won an award for being a personality..Been featured in a car magazine...Been given the opportunity to help raise money for sick children...Actually speak to the majority of the people down my street..(Bit of a weird one)..And get called a total lunatic..Probably not..The wedge in my eyes is a project through and through..It was built by an engineering company and so continues its heritage..Original is good but in reality sooner or later things will need engineering..Sometimes re-engineering..A wedge gets under your skin and becomes your passion..The other half will either be jealous or envious of the attention you give the wedge..Athough some love them just as much..Regret is something that is very hard to live with but happiness is even harder to find so if it makes you happy have no regrets...Ziga

I agree with the above posts, mine is also "only" a 280i but SOOOoooo much fun.

I never tire of the "Nice Car Mate" comments, or the thrill of driving it.

I still swear at mine (sometimes when I shouldn't!) but overal it behaves quite well.

It still tickles me that it makes my 220BHP XJ Sport (X300) seem sedate/sluggish.

I have paid out much more than mine is worth. Had one or two "shall I sell" moments but it is a thing that tugs at me and cannot let it go.

The only way this is going is when I can part ex for a SEAC.... but a Wedge, well, its the hooligan within kicking you in the nuts to get out.

Ah you are all great guys.. I'm rethinking things, think I over panicked a bit,
On my Hols for 2 weeks from tomorrow.
Gonna have a good think about it.
I always said to be fair, I would have a wedge even if it was to sit in the drive so I could start it up once a day and listen to the V8 growl..
I have to say its not about profit, but it would be nice to not loose too much.
Having said That, now they are back in Biz , they are gonna go through the roof!!
Ha ha.. Ya never know. smile

Thanks again guys i may have to keep it,if no other reason I would miss your help and banter! smile

Hi

Yes I have a few Wedges and I would hate to get rid of any of them. (Which I may do to a couple to improve my collection.)

Dont do it.

If you can't do what you want now wait a bit and do it when you can.
Mr Zig a prime example, he's done his car up on a shoestring over the last couple of years (Untill this year) and its now a nice car. But he will still be doing things in two years time.

You don't have to do it all at once!

I am in a position were finiancially I cant afford to run my wedge but I would rather let it sit in my garage for 12 months than sell it cos it is a good one after all the work I have done to it over the years. Sell it and maybe be able to buy another in 12 months or so and then possible get one were I have to do the same work I have done to this. Dont see the point.

I'm in agreement as I said in another post mine is far from a glittering example of the marque and If I wasn't handy with the spanners, voltmeter and first aid kit TVR ownership would not be something I could afford. OK so your car's not perfect well most have their issues and rather than throw in the towel now and potentially make a loss anyway why don't you enjoy the bits you have got perfected and save up for the next round of improvements ?

.... off to fault find in the headlight pod wiring.... I could be some time frown

People who know me will tell you I like to have a 'showroom' standard car but unless you have it from new (or throw silly money at it) you will never get that from a used car especially one that is 20+ years old. The one I have is not a show car but it is a very clean car and when it has been at shows it gets no shortage of attention and comments about its lovely condition. I would like to make mine like new but at the same time I love to drive it and if it was 'too clean' it would then start living only in the garage....made that mistake before with a previous car.

Anyway, keep it, drive it, enjoy it, clean it and forgive it for the bits that aren't perfect. I have done the carpets, veneers. Roof next, paint a long way in the future.....perhaps when I have stopped doing track days biggrin

Got to keep it !!

Bought mine for £5k lost a gear after the first trip to lemans !
New gear box and clutch and exhaust £££
Then lost compression and engine was £££££
Then new roof ££
Turned into full interior retrim
WHOOPS

and that's before the fuel costs ( AHEM )

I reckon ill be about £20k ( maybe £25k ) when done !! YIKES

However the important bit as I see it .................

Could I and would SWMBO let me spend £25k on a 23 year old plastic pig ??? NO WAY

So you sneak up on it over the years and they never know !!!!

And you end up with something special smile

Just my thoughts

PS

£25k over five years is about £400 per month .......

New German machine for £25k financed over five years at £400 per month would mean I would end up owing an extra maybe £4000 in interest plus have a car worth £8K to £12k less the interest would leave me £4k to £8k worth of metal

My wedge must be worth more than £8k when completed so to me its seems like better deal and the new car will keep depreciating and the tvr will probably stay level and has a chance of increasing ....

Just my strawberry and lime flavoured cider fuelled thoughts smile
