Could this have killed me ???????

Hi All,
I think I'd better change my PH name to either Mr Fiddle or Mr Clueless !!!!
Just did my usual and popped to Tesco in the wedge (was there until 11.30pm on Monday repairing my reverse switch via spotlight, don't ask
) to get a few groceries and thought while I'm here I'll just check under the bonnet, the bonnet being held by my son's little blue broom which got "lost"
ahem, years ago !
Anyway noticed that there was a slight fuel leak from the fuel pipe to the fuel rail, no problem, just tightened the jubilee clip which cured it. Then I noticed how perished the ignition coil lead is at the coil end so thought I'd check it is on securely.....f
HELL...big spark...Oops, forgot the car was running
So my question is, if I was not wearing my rubber soled trainers would it have been a case of me saying
to you all forever ???

but i was told once that an old tube tele can still hold a kick years later that will mess you up good n proper? don't know if its true but will not tamper with one ....think i will stick with tvr's at a decent hour! and not here in the ghetto

Talking of shocks from a car..Years ago i had a sierra and i was going to visit a friend who i hadnt seen for ages so i was trying to sort it out but the timing was well out..So on the morning of my journey i decided to loosen the distributor bolt and then start the car so i could adjust it whilst it was running..I got within inches of the cap and my hand got pulled on to it and i felt the current creeping up my arm to the elbow before i managed to pull my hand off..I then rested my hand about 8" away and then as i lifted my hand up it got pulled again straight on to the cap and this time i was really struggling to pull my hand off..I could feel the amps going past my elbow and up to my shoulder..
..I literally had to put my foot on the front of the car and push myself off..I dont do that anymore..Even with marigolds on!...

My lens on my SLR was playing up so as I was bored that evening I decided to have look. With a small set of screwdrivers I had unscrewed the lens to find nothing. Set about the Canon camera, managed to get the back off to check stuff when my finger touched something which gave me such a wallop it made me scream like a girl and throw me off the bed. I was so shocked that I could get a shock like that from a camera that, I hadn't used for a few hours, I couldn't stop laughing. Apparently I touched the main connection to the thyristor which powers the pop up flash. As they say fingers burnt ? Must have done something tho as next day it all worked ..............LOL

I'm an x-ray techie, the high voltage cables we use (at up to 450kV) act like capacitors and will stay charged at tens of kV for months on end... wakes you up in the morning

I did the exact same thing with the old slr clip on flashes, my thumb was paralysed for ages, it f
king hurt and my dad was pissing himself. Next flash that stops working goes in the bin...... Don't be a tight arse!!!!Ha! Reminds me when I was a slip of a 15 year old, watching my dad test for a spark on my poorly 50cc moped - ignition on, spark plug in hand with HT lead attached and then kicking the bike over... Sparky, sparky, all was good.
When I tried the same later, the resulting spark from the plug to my little finger sent a excruciating spasm up to my shoulder and my whole arm was dead for about 10 minutes - thought I'd paralysed myself! Dad comes running out to my screams and when I explained what I'd done, his reply was
Dad: You were holding the plug against the head, weren't you?...
Me: Err... no...
Dad: Well you won't make that f
g mistake again, will you!?!

It's always a great fun to connect an electronic capacitor the wrong way to a battery via a push-switch and tape it under someones office chair. It's much funnier than the traditional paper pin, while it's even less expected and scares the hell out of people near him/her too

The tube holds a freaking vacuum inside, so breaking it can be... intresting, even if there's not a single faraday of electric left. But yeah, practically anything holding big capacitors can give a nice kick, if the capacitors aren't empty. Luckily they usually are connected to be emptied automatically after poweroff.I have told this before in other bits of this forum, but many years ago we were on holiday in norfolk, our car at the time was a VW transporter and it was running really badly, when we got to the carpark my dad opened up the engine hatch and had a root around in the engine bay, so was pretty much bent double when he grabbed hold of the main lead of the coil, he exited out from under the engine hatch in pretty much a seated position and flew backwards before landing on his arse on the floor. His 4 sons definitely did not stand there pointing and laughing at him

..Does nicola know??....I would of thought you learnt your lesson with the HT leads that time in the park..
