Having been carved up by some C**t in a golf at the weekend, I belted the horn a bit enthusiastically and it got jammed in for about two minutes. I frantically tried to simulataneously drive / dig the the button out / rudely gesticulate and I finally managed to free it, but when I got home had a proper look and found that my horn was no longer working... I removed the push button and touched the two wires together and all that happens now is a small spark, clicking of the relay and nothing else... I'm thinking maybe the compressor has burnt out...? Any thoughts?

Also totally unrelated, but the clock which is normally as reliable as er clockwork has expired too...(was fine on Friday, dead on Sunday) anyone happen to know if there is a fuse for this? or am I likely looking at a replacement / refurb?

Thanks in advance
P

It all depends what type of horn you have. 400SE normally has two 12v horns which doesn't have a compressor. It would only have a compressor if they were air horns. Air horns are easy to spot as they would normally have two or three trumpets somewhere under the bonnet or in the nose cone. If they are air horns then it could well be the compressor which can be tested by running wires to it direct from the battery. If it fails to work then it's the compressor. You could do a similar test on the 12v horns and if they fail to work it's the horns themselves. If they do work with a direct power supply, then you need to look elsewhere like relays and fuses or wiring etc.

I believe the clock has a power supply in the fuse box. It would be one of the lower rating ones but I can't tell you which one without looking at a wiring diagram. I believe it's together with interior light etc.

Thanks for the advice Tony, yes the horn has been replaced at some point with twin tone air horns, so I'll do as you say at the weekend. What I could really do with is a schematic of the fuse layout, although I gather than the layout differs from car to car...so guess at some point Ill have to map my own.
