Hi Mate..This has been suggested a few times in the past but its not easy to find somewhere to accomodate 50 or more cars..With hotels near by..Food..A hall in which to have a get together in and a bar that stays open till the sun comes up..Personally if my wedge is working 100% then i would drive from lands end to john o groats but thats me and not everyone will..It would be cool if there were a few venues to use which could give some variety...But where?...Ziga

we (as in myself (organised the Griff Growl) and Gandalf, who use to organise the BBWF in the good old days) looked at a number of alternative venues but none of them ticked as many boxes as Ettington. Maybe there is an alternative but Ettingotn are now used to us and not many hotels would accept a rolling raod, traders in the grounds and a load of people drinking cans and not buying for the bar. Then theres the room rates, evening do options, and use of the car park for FREE.
Plus the central location as going too much furthe rsouth or north makes it harder for those having to travel even further. We did look at a north and south option but this may split attendance. You have to try and please most of the people most of the time as not everything will be 100% for everyone.
No quick easy solution I'm afraid.

Paul,

Would it be an option for you to combine the 2 events? Speaking for the Dutch delegation, I (and some others) own Griffs, the rest of the boys wedges..... The whole event would have more "substance", more people, more traders interested and more fun!

I dont see any harm exploring this. Would have to see what the general concensus is of the 2 groups. I think the 2 are a good match having been to all Growl and most BBWF's - only been to one on the last 3 or 4 years.

There were a few griffs and a couple of cerbs at this years fest..Even though they were parked in the next car park i wandered over there and spoke to a nice chap who was sitting there enjoying the day..On the sunday there was only two people who went on the rolling road..Me and a light blue griff..Ziga

I (briefly) attended both this year and think a joint event could be a success and hopefully ensure support by more traders - maybe a change in venue at the same time could be a change too far and would be a less reliable gauge of how successful the 'new' joint event would be.

I also like the idea of combining it with another large event (similar to the BNG ) which adds some variety and can make for a more interesting day..

Just my tuppenneth.

I was wondering about a joint event - traders would be more interested for one thing.

However someone said it would be the 10th Anniversary of BBWF next year? So maybe we should do that one last time, bill it as "The last BBWF 10th Anniversary Limited Edition" or some such (with extra W's and F's as required) and go out with a bang???

Then join up with the Griffs maybe for 2015.

On the subject of a southern venue, all the above, the beer prices are generally higher down south, and there are usually 6 cars from Scotland and 20+ from the North who attend the Chase. So I would keep it somewhere central-ish, personally. (I'm from down south and like to get out of it at least once a year!)

Have done a fair few meets here and there's free camping, the stalls are not to over priced, beer tent and fun fair, so lots to do, and the bonus is we can trash the hell out off our cars, Wedge v ??laugh

Why not take over a small Village for the weekend? Just as an example, I live in a small town called Usk near Newport Gwent. All amenities are within 3 minutes walk and central. There is a large field that is often used as a car park for venues such as Usk in Bloom, summer festival, Circus etc. There about 10 pubs/inns 2 Hotels. Plenty of accommodation. Our British Legion or Conservative Club are large enough to cater for any indoor bash and I daresay would be available free due to drink/food sales (NOT stupid hotel prices). Beautiful driving roads as some on here can verify.

There must be many Wedgers living in similar country Villages with amenities like this. The trick here though is getting it without having to charge.

I think that Ettington Chase is central and very easy going about what we do. Bringing your own drinks, smearing rubber around their parking place and so on.

There are 2 one-model-groups being used to having (had) some very nice weekends over there; The Growlers and the Wedgers, but both are experiencing lower numbers. Why not make it a funny meant rivaling clash of the followers of these two types of cars? 2 camps, traders in the middle and then making fun of each other, contest, Tug a wars and so on. And after that drinking beer and BBQ'ing together.

Rolling road contest, more traders, more people, more rubber, more beer, more fun.

The Griff-people seem to be thrilled by the idea as well;

Could be an idea...Maybe do it every couple of years to spice things up a bit..That way we can pack the whitehorse inn out..(Shake it all about) and the hall in the chase will be ramo..Maybe a "Gredgefest" 2014 and then 2016...just a thought...Ziga

Hi Peeps, I think this would make for a great weekend !! As both Griff and Wedge numbers were a little down this year, combining the two together will help both sides out, weather it's a Griff or a Wedge we all share the same DNA in our cars and can you picture the run out with over 100 TVR's in convoy !! So my fellow Wedge fans what are your thoughts on a joint weekend with the Griff boys they seem up for it !! What say you ??

Anything other than Wedges isn't BBWF. Not rocket science is it?

Edit: would still be a great event but calling it or even mentioning the name BBWF is an insult to what has gone before. May as well call it the TVRCC and have done with it wink
