Finally purchased a new head unit for the Wedge.

My Wedge has only ever had the standard tape deck fitted to the two rear side speakers.
Just wondering how everyone else has their stereo's

... do you have door mounted speakers ? tweeters on the dash ? Subs ?

if so, did you fit them yourself ?

Ive got an Alpine CD head unit which i have had for years! Love it because its got green buttons so matched the interior lighting....

Ive put speakers in the front door cards but wish i hadnt now frown Sounds good but they are very annoying when getting in the car and knocking the grills off! smile

I put in a period rad/cass. pure old school.
speakers in the front door cards, two parcel shelf mount bass and two normal speakers. and two speakers for the rear wheel arches (i've a fhc) and two tweeters which attach to the sun visors.
i've another card mount speakers but not sure where to put them yet.
6 cd changer in the boot.

To be honest, I don't think you will hear them down by your feet...I would stick some decent ones in the rear, good head unit and think of a small bass speaker under the dash on the passenger side...would be a god result IMHO smile

i agree with all the above. i've ten speakers, ok 6 speakers, 2 bass and 2 tweeters; and the v6 still out plays them. i know a more powerful amp unit would eventually win, but the tunes would indecipherable and my ear drums would burst.
A bit of Madness on the tape deck and a bigger bit of madness beneath the right foot, both turned up loud!

Cheers everyone... Im going to completely re-wire the HiFi & speakers, so Think Ill use the existing rear speakers, and see if I can get a pair of 6x9's in the rear shelf (might be difficult as the rollbar goes through there too.
Then wire up in 4 speaker mode, with the sound stage focal point being just behind the rear seats. That should give me the volume and reduce distortion

I fitted a JVC head unit of moderate power with speakers out of a cerbera 2 in the back directly behind the seats and 2 in the sides behind the seats. Now to hear any music above the roar of the engine on the motorway you have to turn it up so loud its like going to a motorhead concert and me ears ring afterwards, not so bad at normal speeds and worse with the roof up for some reason, so i dont bother at all now.

What you can fit on your back shelf even with roll bar mounts. Sony Xplod head feeding into the Alpine Amp. I still prefer the noise of the engine and exhaust though smile

Not arguing and I'm sure all the thumpers are great but in addition to upgrading the parcel shelf speakers (same size, just newer), I put two speakers (per seat) designed to upgrade Miata/M5 headrest mounted speaker in my TVR headrests and find they work fine for 'just playing tunes or news' on a reasonable amount of coin and effort. Didn't even need to perforate the leather although I'd think that would might be better still. Grady

I agree Adam! I've been going through the process of removing the cabling to the 3 rear shelf speakers fitted to mine when I bought it. Intend to have a token pair of speakers and re-glass the rear shelf.

My HiFi comes out of the exhaust!!

Been taking a few measurements and Might beable to squeeze a pair of 6x9's in the rear shelf but for now I think Ill just use the 2x 6" mount points behind the seatbelt pillars.
Need to install a set of ISO plugs in the dash too while im tidying things up.

After measuring, Ive decided to go with the original setup, and wired front and rear outputs together, and just split off the Left & Right channels.

Wiring was interesting, I have 2 wires that dont appear to do anything !.. one I suspect is the electric ariel.. Which is now redundant as I have an amplified ariel under the dash the other .... Unknown. it goes into the loom so Ill tape up the end and leave it !

What model is that?
I fancy something that I can connect an mp3 player to for long journeys, the one I am getting only has a cassette deck in and I dont think I actually posess any cassettes anymore
