Chris Evans and his side kicks make a fortune out of it ! they use charity so people spend more and then Chris makes more ...you don`t think he does it for nothing do you ..

Probably only the rent goes to charity .

Just like supermarkets ,they use charity to make more money .

Not all of it goes to charity ..How much do you think Jamie Oliver makes selling a plate of noodles for £8 ..The queues are 100 meters long .

Sadly there is some truth in that...Even non-profitable organisations make a profit..How does that work?...Unfortunately i dont give to foreign charities purely because most of the money is swallowed up by "Admin fee's" and scummy wittlers along the way..Yet even the charities i do give to cast's a doubt in my mind as to whether or not it is actually getting to where it is needed...I know its not the case with smaller run charities but the larger ones...Well its anyone's guess....Ziga

Who would want to set all that up for nothing ,they even charge 3k for glamping so no one actually books it ! Chris and all his cronies stay in a secure glamping area...

When the first tickets go up for sale the glamping area is fully booked ...what does that tell you ? They have never been available to the general public .

Well, the Carfests raised nearly £1m for Children in Need last year - with a £1.5m target this year.

Around 25% of the money they take goes to charity - the rest will be going to pay for the facilities - even charity events have costs! - but I'm pretty sure none of the celebrities involved will be taking payment for attending.

I tried to verify the glamping costs, but couldn't - but the cost of that is set by the externally contracted supplier, rather than Evans and the BBC.

You obviously have an axe to grind, but I don't think it's great to be throwing around accusations against a celeb. who probably lurks (or even posts under a false name) on the site!

I don`t have an axe to grind ! I`m just saying how it is ..people do make money outof these events .I would not mind but it is not mentioned .. The only thing they do talk about is how much they have made for charity. Why not tell the whole story .

If they so charitable why can`t they drop there prices ?

Why charge so much . Last year think It was £70 for a weekend ,don`t know how much it is this year.

It`s not affordable for average earners .

So, again, how does Chris make money out of the events? Surely Jamie isn't giving him a cut from his £8.00?

Surely after Terry Wogan's embarrassment a few years ago, other celebs wouldn't be as foolish to be on the take?

I do understand different charities have vastly differing overheads, I do give to charity, but I am aware of what the cause is likely to receive from the donation.

I personally feel £70 for a weekends entertainment is very reasonable, probably less than the peoples perception that the average CHAV on benefits spends on a Friday night.

Please don't take any of the above as a personal assault, just my opinion. I do believe CE does good for this great cause, and if the event does raise good money the best thing to do IS shout about it, the likelihood is next time more people will give to what is already a great cause.

Chris.

I think your over analysing it. By the time you've employed the people to set everything up plus the acts, its hardly horrendous.

No ones forcing you to go and I doubt Chris makes little or anything out of it. Why would he care. If you understand big bucks being seen as part of a charitable event is all good reputation build in corporate world.

Unfortunately there lies potential problems..Mixing the general public with celebrities can become a security risk in some cases and more work would be needed with CRB/DBS/ISA and therefore more money would have to be taken from the charity pot..In an ideal world if everyone involved in such events could give services FOC then all the monies raised would see its way clearly to the recipients..But this is NOT an ideal world...Although some would contest such cynicism...I give to certain charities for personal reasons but if i and everyone else was to become too un-trusting of such bodies then what little percentage does get through would stop and therefore suffering would be increased to a higher level then compared to current levels..Which in themselves are bad enough..I say "Do not give to charity to make yourself feel good..But feel good that the charity you give does some good"...Thanks...Ziga

I agree with Zig that contact between Joe Public and celebrities should be controlled due to the risks.

Who is Chris Evans, is he a Wedgeist?

Is Car Fest actually a registered charity itself (I couldn't find it) or simply a commercial business that's pledging some or all profits to a registered charity. There is a massive, massive difference.

Think you will find that the profits from Car Fest all go to BBC Children in Need. It started as an idea by Chris Evans on His Breakfast Show last year, and when Jody Scheckter offered to host it on his farm it just took off. I wouldn't think that someone who lets people bid to drive his personal Ferarri collection for charity would be doing this for his own gain.

I think you'll find they don't.

CarFest reportedly *made* £4m last year and raised £1m for charity. Note made £4m not raised, made = profit.
