Rear Coil overs
Discussion
I've been in touch with coilsprings.co.uk and they where very useful but £110 plus the dreaded for a pair of springs when race coils are about £30 a pair.
So I've been thinking as you do...
My 400 is fitted with Protech shocks at the rear which already have adjustable spring platforms, but of a larger diameter than a usual coil over so the standard 3 and a bit inch spring fits... Looking at the existing arrangement I could get the spring platforms machined down to take a 21/4" spring and also get a "cup" made to fit inside the existing spring location ring to hold the top of the smaller spring and spread the load into the existing mount, the cup would be held in place by the top of the shock absorber mount.

This would give me a lot more options for rate and length.
Do you think the existing mount would cope with this ?

I would say that you don't need the shock absorber mount to hold it in place but it won't do any harm, as long as it's only a couple of mm thick at this point it won't affect the bump stop unduly.
You may as well just use a collar to keep the spring central - it would be simpler. Keep it in place with a couple of M5 bolts.
P.S. Springs are only a few quid each to make so I wonder where all the markup is going.....
