D'oh!!!! Anyone know where I can get a fuel pump?
Discussion
Sod's law my TVR decided to conk out at a set of traffic lights today.
I wasn't sure if it was fuel (my fuel gauge is dead) or not so put the "spare" gallon in but still couldn't start it.
After trying MORE fuel and a Jump Start (incase it just needed to pump the fuel through) still no joy so got the RAC out and looks likely my fuel pump is shot.
There is power to the pump and he thinks it is "doing something" (or trying to at least) but not making its normal whirring sound, so no fuel at the metering head, started ok first thing this morning but I only got about 1 mile before the car stalled at the lights.
I have working spares for most bits but sadly not the fuel pump it would seem.
Any pointers on getting a replacement pump would be appreciated esp as I'm due to be in the Motoring Demonstartion at Dunsfold in 2 weeks!!
Cheers.
(I'll ring RT Racing etc on Monday but thought it work an ask here just in case)

Hi Mate..Thats unfortunate..That did happen to me and luckily it was down to the wiring..Did they check all that including relays and fuses?..There are a number of places to get a fuel pump but i would either give KMI petrol injection a call..Ask for steve and tell him mark recommended you..He is very quick at despatching goods and will definitely supply you with the right one..Cheers...Ziga

Cheers for that and yes the RAC guy checked, the wiring seems fine the power is getting to the pump just fine.
Have a look at the pink relay under the dash, thats what was stopping mine from running. If it has come loose or packed up then the injection system wont work at all.
If you need one let me know and I will go pick mine up from the factors I ordered it from just before the car set on fire lol
If the fuel pump is getting power (RAC guy says so), then the pump is bad.
When I fitted my new pump, I added an in-line filter between the swirl pot and the pump, just to see if any bits of rusty metal were coming from the pot or tanks. Apart from age, I reckoned that rusty metal would be the cause of pump failure.
Wilf.

I bought a new pump recently, much cheaper than UK price. Try Googling "fuel pump 0580254910" and see what you find. On this side of the pond you would pay under $60 (+ S/H). I doubt if it will fit your timetable.
Wilf.
Thanks Wilf found LOADS with that part number on "Fleabay" and I never knew it was used on SOOOOOO many cars.Wilf.
I've grabbed one on BIN which should be with me Tuesday potentially.
I'll try my Local guys etc tomorrow just to be sure, won't hurt to have a "spare" for future use.
Looks like I should be running again this week if all goes well.

Just for future ref, is it the same pump for all wedges? V6 and V8 fuel injected units I mean
I don't think so.The V6 uses the pump from the 2.8 Ford Capri MK III but it is used on MANY other vehicles, so it MIGHT be similar/the same.
But as the V8's are Rover I'd suspect it's a different unit.
Hi everybody,
I replaced my pump some days ago. It was a Bosch Item Nr.0580464014. At the time my car was build Bosch used 72 different pumps !!!
Now they reduced this to 7 Pumps for all vehicles. What pump you need depends on the system pressure normaly 3 bar in the wedges.I used the Bosch pump Nr. 0580464070. Costs here in Germany at about 100 € and fits perfect.Attached some pics from a new Bosch listing.
Regards from Germany

Most pump failures (on TVRs and also on Rover EFi V8s) occur soon after running out of fuel. The petrol runs through the pump and acts as a lubricant and coolant.
Add to this the extra crud from the bottom of the tank and the pump grinds to a halt.

Almost certainly the cause in my case....Add to this the extra crud from the bottom of the tank and the pump grinds to a halt.

Perfect - pump listed above was what I had fitted (£110 for the pump).I used the Bosch pump Nr. 0580464070. Costs here in Germany at about 100 € and fits perfect.
I had to get a new fuel pump as mine seized a couple of weeks ago, on my way to a Goodwood breakfast club meet. Biggest problem was getting the car to my mechanic! Back to business as usual again!

I do have one question does anyone know for sure what happens if you have fuel in one tank and nothing in the other? I think BOTH tanks serve the "swirl pot" so it should make no difference?
Reason I ask is one of my filler caps has a seized lock and I cannot open it so have only been putting fuel in via the drivers side tank, I usually fill it up when I start the day (especially if I'm doing a long trip) but it MIGHT be that I currently have one tank with about 3-4 gallons in and one empty.
Would this contribute to trouble starting the car after replacing the fuel pump? The old pump did have some residule fuel in it when taken off.
