Hi All
I have just made a deal to buy a 350i, Just need to pay for it, car needs a new mot, hope to collect car insure it(where best to get a classic and less than 30000 miles a year policy from,
I have had max no claims for over 10 years but don't want to use that on TVR) taking straight to MOT station. looking forward to all that comes with this. Having read some of the stuff around , should I be buying? Well I am anyway.
I will hope to pick all your brains going forward no doubt.
Look forward to reading about these cars now
Thanks
Deke

You can get classic insurance so you won't need to use your no claims bonus.
Have fun!

Thanks for the link Stu

I've just had my renewal in from Adrian Flux and I think its a bit steep!

However i've just tried RH and the Snotty Mare on the phone said they wont touch anyone with less than 12 months ownership of a TVR? Apparently 26 years experience driving everything under sun and full protected no claims accounts for nothing!

Don't think ill be trying them again :-(

Does anyone know any where else worth trying.

Oh and welcome to 350i ownership DEKE. You wont regret it biggrin

Karl.

Welcome to the world of wedge ownership. You'll have great fun!!

I have both my TVR's insured with Adrian Flux and they are about £140 each p.a. based on 3,000 miles a year with declared mods.

Hi All
Thanks for the welcome and the insurance info etc.Tried a few and settled for Lancaster £154 with breakdown cover roadside assist and a lot more. Got fed up calling around. Car booked in for an MOT as soon as I buy it on Thursday, has been sorned for a year or so and I thought take straight to garage to see all is ok. Do you reckon change oil right away and coolant. Any thing else I should be looking to do right away. Car looks good big service history TVR from new up to 2 years ago and then local, all old MOTs Guy I am buying from has owned it five years and has owned a couple of TVRS previously. Has asked me to keep in touch with him and go for a blast some time so hoping car is as good as looks.
thanks
Deke

Hi DEKE and welcome to the wedge fraternity, You say that it has been sorn for a year, If it has been regulariliy started and moved a little and the battery kept in order then it should be ok, If the oil and coolant have been changed fairly recent then they should be ok, It might be worth changing spark plugs and the oil filter and possibly greasing the UJ's and prop.
Brake and clutch seizure can sometimes happen whilst a car is sat and even fuel tanks can rust, But this is not always the case, You must be made aware however that the wedge forum's appetite for pictures is immense so please provide us with some when you can...Cheers...Ziga

Thanks for info, owner said he started car regular also short runs down road, new battery fitted. Will ask him re last oil change and if coolant has been done.
Will take your advice and get new plugs and grease as suggested.
Is there a Haynes manual out there for these.

You need the Wedge Bible...written by Steve Heath. Nothing better IMO.

Ask the present owner if he has the book.

Ideally an SD1 rover manual and a Steve heath wedge maintenance manual, That way you cover engine and all bits TVR related...You could shop around but i have just had a bit of a search and could only find two..Cheers..Ziga

Greetings OP.

Get it through the MOT.

Change all the fluids.

Check tyres, brake pads, discs, brake calipers, front anti-roll bar bushes, trailing arm pins/bushes (if fitted), drive shaft UJs, rear wheel hub nuts, fuel hoses, chassis outriggers.

Find some tunnels.

Rover SD1 for the engine, gearbox and fuel injection (RangeRover at a push; the gearbox internals are the same but you really need the SD1 manual for ease)
Jag XJ6/ XJS for the rear brakes and differential
Ford Cortina for the front suspension (Granada Mk2 is the same design, the TVR actually is a mix from both cars)
SD1 for the steering column (TR7 on an early Tasmin)

None of it is rocket engineering really. The electrics are simple, apart from the first 18 months or so of production the wiring loom follows British colour code convention... and a quick enquiry on here will tell you where almost any bit of the car came from - just don't expect to physically find them all as easily.
