I'm sure the answer will be no, but hey ho I thought I'd ask.

When I bought my 400SE back in 1998, I used it as my daily driver for 4 years, Rain / Snow, drove through it all.

Yes, you can use them every day and you never get tired of giving it large when a gap opens up a few hundred yards infront of you smile

Theres no reason why not, other than the increase in fuel over an oil burner!

My 350i gets driven to Norfolk from Kent every few weeks and driven most weekends with the kids, and Ive never had any problems apart from who goes in the front seat!

My 280i is also more than capable of being a daily driver, we all drove Capri's back in the day, and the 2.8 cologne is near on bullet proof!

Yes of course you can. I must have done close on 200K miles in wedges over the years, mostly to/from work in percentage terms.

Maybe I should change the question to: Can a 25+ year old Wedge be used as a daily driver....

Again, no reason why not.

I would say though that many people's expections of what is acceptable has changed over 25 years.

But providing you can accept the limitations of a 25yr old specialist car such as poor heating/cooling, steaming up in bad weather, dim headlights, etc. etc. there is no reason not to drive them all the time.

In other words, the limitations are all around the fact its 25yrs old, not that its a TVR.

Interesting. Considering we have a Range Rover Classic 1991 used as a daily driver, then maybe we should add a TVR too!

I do, with some exceptions:
  • if it is icy; I've got slick tyres
  • if it is muggy and raining heavily as ventilation is not good; the back window steams up when the roof is up, but I open the windows anyway
  • I am taking green waste to the dump

Went out in the rain today, the first time for a long while, to get some groceries. Lovely relaxing drive, just burbling along.

I would think that as long as the car is in good condition and is serviced regularly and maintained well then it could be used daily- if you mean general use (not a 50k mile rep mobile). I'm trying to use mine at every opportunity this year after only doing 1200 miles last year. I think cars benefit from regular use anyway as having a car sitting unused for long periods brings a whole new set of problems....

I did for seven years or so. Got a tad expensive on the trip from Wales to the Midlands and back. Fortunately not every day but a few a week so not strictly a daily driver.

Got cheaper to buy another car for the trip....

I have an M3 as a daily driver, the first year I stored the wedge I used to own, she didn't like it, she seized her handbrake off in protest, so the following year I used her all I could, not in heavy rain or snow, but crisp fresh winter days, heater full blast, roof down, V8 roar.... lush smile

Just sold my Corvette (if the buyer collects and pays tomorrow lol) so looking for a new wedge, budget of £5000.... form an orderly queue sellers wink

See you all soon, and at BBWF '14 smile

Even in the old days you could! I used my old Tasmin 280i FHC as a daily driver between 1987 - 1988. Lived in Hadleigh and worked in Romford so it had a 50 mile round trip everyday!

Owning a '85 TVR 280i since 1991, when I bought it with 400 miles on it, and having to drive it, in fact, pretty much as my daily driver since my daily driver has been giving me fits, in New England USA, the answer is:

NO.

There's MUCH more to this, but that's the short of it.
