Help.

Went out for a drive in my new 350i and it has stopped. Won't rev at all but will idle. Gauge says half a tank

Ok panic over

I have now found out that I have the most TVR of fuel gauges, when you put the ignition on and it goes to 3/4 of a tank no matter how little fuel there is in the tank.
Luckily I broke down near a mates house and he was around to take me for a can of juice.
rookie mistake I know, I was taken in by the cars shininess and forgot for a minute it was a tvr and therefore anything electrical is suspect!
I have reset the trip and put £40 in so I can keep a track of how much fuel I have in it.

Wondered where my run out point was. Turned out it was empty when it said so. Always seemed to be so little to fill up but the transfer pipe will not let it be quick.

The fuel guage has never worked in my 400 until after the Wedge Fest
when I collected my brand new sender unit for David Garalds
and it now seems to work very well and even seems steady

Have a good time with the new motor Andy

Cheers

The wedge fuel gauge is so simple to understand...Here is a small lesson that i learnt..

If your gauge is reading 1/4 of a tank then you are about to run out of fuel...
If your gauge is reading 1/2 a tank then you have a 1/4 of a tank..
If your gauge is reading Full then you have 3/4 of a tank..

Try to top up the last 1/4 and you will lose it to the floor...

Park with your O/S to the kerb/camber and you will have a full tank, Lose some to the floor and end up with 1/2 a tank again..which means you only have a 1/4 which means you are going to run out of fuel.

However if you have a reading of an empty tank and go to change the swirl pot feed hoses you will get around 1/2 a tank of petrol all over the floor...Simple.....Ziga

My gauge is even simpler than that Zig, if it reads just over half it is empty, if you put a 5 litre can in it still sits at just over half. If you put £40 in it still reads just over half.

My oil pressure gauge flicks up to a normal ish reading when stated from cold, then as it gets warm the needle goes up into the red and it stays there forever.

I think one of my jobs will be to get my auto electrician mate to have a good look at the electrics.

Looks like your sender unit for the oil pressure is faulty.had the same fault.
