I normally dismiss cars if they're miles away from where I live,

but....

Anyone know anything about the red 400SE on Pistonheads, huge rear spoiler, aftermarket alloys, who's owner has sadly passed away frown

Looks very nice and quite reasonable too. Are those aftermarket alloys? I have a set of those very wheels to put on my 350i once I have finished fettling it and I was told they are genuine 400se wheels?

Oh sorry, maybe they are.... just haven't seen wheels like that before? Must be quite rare then?

Those wheels arnt genuine TVR wheels..

There are a few things about that car that looks suspect.

1. There is a side exit exhaust
2. The carpet looks "cheap"
3. The steering wheel looks "Grotty"
4. The "400" badge on the plenum is on the wrong side
5. The black ribs on the rockers look like my 7 yr old drew them in using crayon
6. Why is there a brick under the front wheel and that handbrake looks right up (rear brakes need attention)

aside from that, I dont like the dash, that spoiler isn't my personal taste. but ... the seats look nice & the paintwork looks in good order, and the red rood / targa top looks new !

You could spend £800 - £1000 (plus the cost of a set of original wheels if you can find them) putting that back to "standard", that doesn't include the possible cost of having to have the rear brakes looked at.

Or you could fettle it yourself in your garage over the winter....

The wheels are OZ by the way...no idea if they are genuine

Good points to negotiate a healthy discount for a cash sale within budget? Bit awkward though considering the sad circumstances of the sale.... plus Scotland is about a light year away from South Wales :/

Those look like Speed 8 wheels to me.

But are you really gonna stress about a worn steering wheel rather than worry about the state of the chassis or the motor?

The Wheel are indeed OZ and were originally used on the TVR Speed 8 prototype.

You can still get brochures off Fleebay and even a search on Google will find you a picture of said car. wedge but with the sharp edges curved off with these very wheels, even though I believe the car never made it to production.

There has been sets of these wheels flying around for sale lately, and I think this is the second Wedge for sale sporting a set of these wheels.

OR:-
You could hop in the car and drive down to London and look at my metallic black 'bad boy colour' Wedge and we can negotiate the price. (details on PistonHeads Classifieds).

Jay. When you see and hear my car you'll forget all about your budget. If you are shy, just whisper in my ear the figure you have in mind.

When a steering wheel can cost upwards of £300, I would worry as it all forms part of the package when buying a used car.

Ill give you they are the same style of the wheel that was used on the Speed 8 Prototype, and yes they are manufactured by OZ, but they were never fitted to a 400SE, or any road going TVR for that matter .... Looking though the TVR accessory brochure, they were never an option to be fitted either,

A sale is a sale ... your not a charity, and why should you have to allow personal feelings to come into things when your potentially traveling the length of the UK, plus would have to spend more money post purchase

The thing is, with TVR's as they are not common, a buyer has to feel the car is right for him / her. people will travel across the country for the right one, colour, condition etc. If your looking for a bargin, then you can expect some faults to fix. If your looking for a turnkey motor, then you expect to pay a premium .... and every increment in between.

I know we all have our "wants and Must have's", and perhaps my isead of what I would be expecting in a car are different from yours and others (after all were all human), but putting myself in your shoes, the points I made in the first post are what went through my head when I saw the advert.
Now, compare that 400SE to the Mint SEAC in the classifieds.

Tush tush Tony..... I'm disappointed lol wink every TVR buyers guide I've read advises never to hear the engine until you've inspected the rest of the car, because you'll buy the car on the noise alone! there are other things to look at first.... ;p
