Was looking on the bay for stuff for my new 350 and saw an advert for a part from my old 280 that burnt. I had a look at the items he has for sale and just because I couldn't believe the prices I added it all up. If he sells everything he will be looking at getting 3800 for it!
BTW if whoever bought the hood from there is on here it is a good hood but needs the targa seals replacing

Been thinking that maybe because the wedges are now getting on in years, and some are being broken for parts. Is it a good idea to have a section for cars still around.I know there is a list, but what about a place to list the models separately,so we will have a rough idea how many survive.Even list ones that dont.Especially the rarer versions.A sort of wedge archives

Well we did tell you Andy!..I got in touch with them the first day they had it and i have a list of the bits i wanted..The prices they wanted beggars belief..I wanted the light pod motors = 125 + vat each!..Interior switches = 17.95 + Vat!...Wper motor = 125 + Vat...Wiper arm = 15 + Vat!..I wont scare you with what they wanted for the rear hub assemblies!..Put it this way..Robsport sell exchange light pod motors = 40...Rimmers light switch = 10...Im not sure who would want to pay those extorsionate prices..Not me thats for sure...Ziga

I knew there was some money in it but f
k me he charges like a wounded rhino!with what yout have just told me there Mark it looks like he is trying to get 5 k for the bloody thing
He's doing business, that's all. He want's to make profit at the end to pay A) the car itself and B) his time to break it up. So he'll start with prices that'll seem to pay the at least double for what he paid for the car, probably more. Not even nearly all the parts will go with those figures, so in time he lowers them to a certain point, ending up doing a little total profit and stuffing the parts that hasn't sold to the garage/store room and when time comes, he'll dump the rest he has.
He's not getting 5+k total and he knows it. This way he'll just probably get enough to make the job profitable, probably nearer 2k oslt.

Do remember the laws of Business margin over stock turn and overheads.
I have no idea of wedge parts prices however you are presuming that he will sell every part he has to pay someone to take the car apart label and catalogue everything store it pay rates Vat at 20% on parts.
I have never been involved with a Breakers however I would expect a margin of at least x3 over purchase price.
There is a big difference between putting a request up here and asking if someone has X sitting in there garage and want some beer tokens for it and a business that makes a profit and is still trading the next time you want something that no one else has in stock.
All the parts that are unique TVR will as years go by rise in price accordingly and now is the time to buy.

Fair point about running a business but when you compare what Robsport international sell the pod motors for..(Ok not £40 as i first thought.)..£71.00 inc Vat refurbed/Exchange against secondhand £125 + Vat there is a considerable amount of difference and both have overheads..VAT..Employees..I also feel that ok some parts are becoming rare but then there is re-engineering and lets not forget that TVR has been bought back and hopefully will rise like a phoenix from the ashes, Maybe of no benefit to the wedge but you never know...Ziga

You 2 guys have a point BUT the last bid I saw on Copart was £150.I have no idea of wedge parts prices however you are presuming that he will sell every part he has to pay someone to take the car apart label and catalogue everything store it pay rates Vat at 20% on parts.

If he sells any part on there he has covered his initial cost, the next part will cover his storage/guy with a spanner costs, anything after that is just profit. And having been to his yard he puts the car on the racking and only takes bits off as they are bought.
I mean he is trying to sell the burnt out engine for £500, the completely f
ked bonnet (as in the gel coat is pretty much gone , the bonnet latch has fallen out, the vents have burnt through, the struts have fallen out of it)he wants £125 for there is making a profit and there is bending people over. You don't have to buy the parts in buisness you can lower the price but harder to up the price.
The Taimar I bought crashed for £1900 I could have broken and sold bumpers rear screen and. doors and then the rest would have been profit instead spending 20k plus restoring when done it will be great but not 25K.
Why because we are mad and we love the cars
Even today some are spending that on wedges and in 10 years many more will
Enjoy the ride

IF I had the money, space and skills to rebuild that car I would have considered it, I hated seeing it dead but I had to be realistic, I am average at best with a spanner, I have never done any fibreglass work (apart from once bodging a hole in a car wing) and I cant spray, so to pay someone else to do it would have cost me an absolute fortune that I just didnt have.
And to be brutally honest the wedge I have now is better in every way than the dead one, is usable as is, and the jobs that need doing are within my abilities so it can be a project and a usable, showable car as is

Very sensible, know your limits. And to be brutally honest the wedge I have now is better in every way than the dead one, is usable as is, and the jobs that need doing are within my abilities so it can be a project and a usable, showable car as is
It is sad when a car is no longer viable, but it is life and in theory makes the rest of the ones still out there worth a few more £.
It is mainly the labour costs of sorting out damaged cars that makes a lot of insurance companies write them off so regularly. Sometimes (if it is VERY rare) its worth arguing that you want it repaired, but equally I'm always a bit dubious about driving a car that has been in an accident that caused more than "cosmetic" damage.
I used to have an escort that was hit on the drivers wheel by a car doing a U-turn, bent the lower swing arm etc was repaired to a good standard but never felt the same again if I'm honest.
