Hi Peeps..Well i blanked off the plenum and connected the catch tank up to the cut down PCV valve, I even checked that the metal tube inside the plenum that the PCV is connected to was not blocked as it could of been and caused this issue.
The smoke as you can see is popping out like a steam train on idle which it obviously shouldnt do and when its replaced the smoke then comes from the small K&N filter on top of the catch tank.

I dont think its rings as there is no smoke whatsoever coming out the exhausts, It could be a gasket that has shrunk which could of been caused by all the heat issues i had early on or could be a valve that is not sealing correctly..However with any inlet manifold leaks there would be considerable suction on the filler neck if you put your hand over it, Not the complete opposite.
Its a bit baffling but im taking to the ford garage for him to run some test's on it..If it needs any engine work then i think i will ask John Toovey...Now do i buy the white V8 with the red roof for some fun in the meantime..scratchchin..Cheers..Ziga

Not good that, Could it be steam and not smoke?

Zig, does it need suction at the oil filler? Can another 2.8i wedger put his hand over the oil filler (on another 2.8i n/a car!) at idle and see if it's suck or blow, so to speak/write.

Hi why not check the valves for valve stem seals may be one broken that's if it is similar to the v8 best of luck

Hi mate..Thats what i first thought but i have no foaming or bubbles in the header tank..No coolant loss or overheating or purging if i remove the expansion tank cap when hot..No sweet tasting water from the exhaust and no coolant on plugs..Also sniffed the expansion tank and there is no smell of fumes, I would now as i remember what it smells like when there was when mine did fail..Plus i had new payen head gasket's fitted when i had the unleaded heads fitted when the blower was being done.

I will take the vacuum hose that goes to the fuel reg off tomorrow to make sure its sucking when i rev it a little as that could be the idling issue and i will also check the timing..It made no difference when i replaced the plugs with new ones...Cheers..Ziga

I hope not..The valves will be checked though..It will be part of some diagnostics that my ford friend will do next week...Cheers..Ziga

It should have mate..I have never had this before only when the head gasket failed two years ago..As said though i had new good quality gaskets fitted this year with the unleaded heads..
If the filler neck has a lot of suction then that would indicate a leaking inlet manifold..It should be low on idle and then increase when revved.

There should only be suction which is created by the plenum..Its connected to the rocker cover via the PCV valve.

Now it seems that the crankcase pressure is being forced out of anywhere it can be, Things is it shouldnt be that great at idle as the blower is not boosting?...Cheers..Ziga

Zig,

How warm was the engine when you took the video? Any chance you have done or could do a compression check? Last one, assuming it didn't chuff like this before the supercharger was fitted, has it always done since you got it back or has it just started?

Hi Mate..The engine was run for less than a minute after i fitted the catch tank and then i turned it off and went indoors to get the camera came out and turn it over.

The oil leaking from the crank seal has been happening since the blower was fitted but i have only noticed the bad idling since i got it back from power engineering, I have only recently noticed the smoke since checking the operation of the PCV valve..Although it could of been happening before but i wouldnt of seen it as i had a different oil filler cap that had a spout on it and a pipe being vented to the floor, Which incidently was nowhere near the oil patches from the front of the crank..Cheers..Ziga

PS:There was the occasion when me and Chris went out for a drive and posted up a couple of vids..In one of them its shows a considerably amount of blue-ish smoke coming out from under my car but that was oil being pushed passed an ill fitting dipstick and instantly burning on the hot exhaust, I have fitted a better fitting dipstick and have not had that happen since.

Zig, can you go for a run and then check again. The front oil seal may well be due to pressurising but the vapour from the filler neck looked more like water vapour rather than smoke.

There are a couple of areas where the pressuring could be coming from, once a charger is added it does increase pressure so will find ways to escape if it can. Obviously worn cylinders but also worn valve guides and head gasket, each could be a reason for pressurising.

How bad is the oil leak?

Well where i have been parking it up and down outside it looked like a giant black ladder..Im losing about an inch on the dipstick a week..Which is way too much..
I agree it does look like water but there is no creamy oil in the filler neck which i had when i did have a blown head gasket, Or any other symptoms that suggest's head gasket failure..TBH i dont want to drive it until i know what is happening as i dont want to make it any worse...Ziga

Zig, it's going to be difficult to give any advice, it is possible that the vapour is just water vapour in the oil burning off and it may disappear once warm. I assume that the cylinders were compression checked before the blower was fitted, in which case it's more likely to come from valve guides or head gasket. If you have the compression figures it would be useful.

Some pressurisation is inevitable and will be more visible when the engine is cold as moisture in the engine gets heated and released. The blower will increase this but not significantly at idle which is why I wonder if your vapour is just moisture - but it's difficult without actually seeing the engine to tell and I would like to guess.

Hi Mate..That is possible but it shouldnt be blowing out of the filler neck if it is...I will warm it up to normal-hot tomorrow and see if it is still happening.

A compression test was done at power engineering the first time i took it to them and it was 120 on the gauge for all cylinders, Unfortunately i havent bought myself a compression tester yet so cant do a newer one..

2 out of 6 plugs were really varnished up and the rest were slightly glazed but with normal tips/nodes...These plugs were fitted new when power engineering did the intake pipe a few weeks ago.

Heres what the two shyte plugs looked like, They were not wet oily more like burnt on..A bit blurry though..They were both the same.

Damn I missed that one before you changed it for Delilah!!!

Yes I've seen similar amounts of steam from an RV8 if you pull the breather pipe off the plenum.

When running cold it might look worse so please warm it up completely and post up another vid when you can.

You will probably find it's from a small amount of blowby, which may get less when it's warmed up. However if you suspect a cracked piston ring or the like, then I guess it isn't possible to disconnect the injectors one at a time their being mechanical, so the next best thing is to disconnect the ignition leads one at a time so there isn't any detonation and the blowby will stop for that cylinder.

Fumes look no worse than I've seen from Pinto and Zetec engined kitcars with no PCV. Which doesn't really help. Zig, you need to know if the standard 2.8i sucks at idle. I'm sure you've furtled that internet place, but these might be of interest:

http://members.rennlist.com/pbanders/PCV.htm

http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/engine-tuning...

Article 63 on here (pdf so usual warnings) http://www.autoshop101.com/

The starting point is: what does the normally aspirated 2.8i do? If it sucks at idle then that is what yours should do. Also, the vendor of the supercharging kit must have seen something similar previously.

Oh fuzzy....

Which cylinders are the plugs from? What are the others like.. Is the black deposit sooty or hard and glazed on?

looks like piston rings allowing pressure into the crank i think but i am a million miles from an expert let some experts have the car until its sorted.

Zig,

On my engine, there is no great suction into the oil filler/crankcase at any time, that I can tell, but just a slight suction. The PCV valve is supposed to limit the suction to a small amount, as I understand the diagrams. Oil leaks out a lot faster if I use modern, thinner oil, but 20/50 is Ok (still get a few drips out front crank seal though).

My thoughts, which might be right or wrong....

Is the PCV valve connected to same place on inlet manifold as pre supercharge ? (can't tell on photo, but looks like it may be) If it is, I reckon it won't work properly, as there isn't a vacuum in the manifold box any more, but positive pressure. I reckon PCV must be connected to a vacuum point, i.e. BEFORE the supercharger, but AFTER throttle.

How is brake servo now connected ? I can't see that working either if it's connected to inlet manifold box either....so perhaps PCV could be connected to same place as brake servo ?

As I understand the PCV valve workings, it will let positive (supercharged) pressure right through into crankcase, which will cause leaks everywhere, and the Cologne isn't exactly oil tight, even WITH the PCV valve 'sucking' slightly !
