Why do I continue !!!! some advice please
Discussion
I brought a 350se , No26 ( this I now Doubt ) a Red stunner and first was only slightly disapointed.
so improved the brakes !
rose jointed the suspension !
re - tracted the geometry !
superb !! what a car.
Then lost oil pressure - stripped the engine discovered although stamped NCK its just a standard unit.
Now it requires total replacement due to 'botched rebuild ' by former owner
now what !!!

Hi Mate..Thats a pisher!..But you need to ask yourself how much you want/love the car..Is the rest of it in good fettle?..Although its a pain i understand that the V8's are quite easy to rebuild as i have known people with general engine knowledge completing a good rebuild...I have just spent over 75453536374534K on my engine but then i love my wedge..Or im bloody barmy..
..Hope you make the right decision...Ziga
..Hope you make the right decision...ZigaHmmmm.
I dont think there is a smily face for 'knocking on the door of the seller and asking politely for an explanation' !
however, if you are sure that it has been stamped with the NCK in a dodgy way then you have nothing to lose in buying a 3.9 as suggested and changing the cam, and perhaps a bit of head work to give you a useable Wedge again.
straight swap, using all the existing bits, should take you a few days to sort!
Happy wedging

Who told you it requires total replacement? One step at a time? (Can I buy it as it stands?) so improved the brakes !

Edit: having seen your profession, perhaps you have decided it needs total replacement.

What is the chassis number. I have a near complete record of all the 350SE's and from the chassis number I can tell you if its an original SE.
As the records show that num 26 is a Midnight Blue car with a magnolia interior.
Please can you e-mail me the details direct to: AndyTVRTank@aol.com
As I don't use the forum!
Cheers

1. The car was purchased as a TVR 350se with a NCK 49 – 270 bhp engine installed. On cleaning it looks as if it has been simply over stamped and is a standard TVR unit
2. The bores are vertically scored and have what look like standard pistons.
3. The mains and big ends are all scored.
4. The cam has a ‘bakerlight ‘ type drive and the cam is heavily is worn , plus appears it is lost 3 of its profiles.
5. Some of the cam followers have seized and worn or bent the cam pins .
6. The cam helical disy/oil drive gear is worn to a sharp edge, and appears ready to fail
7. The front timing cover /oil pump housing is gouged out beyond repair.
8. The cylinder heads appear to have warped and at least 3 cylinders have been passing oil/ exhaust gases through the head gasket.
9. The block & heads have been skimmed, ande a further repair is not possible as there is not enough metal left.
10. a front cover bolts have sheared off in the block .
This list is all do-able , but what next.
Or perhaps TVR's are always a working project

Wow, that sound like a disaster. Does the engine number match that on the build panel on the wing?
By cam pins I assume you mean pushrods? How did it run and sound when you bought it? With all that wear surely there was some indication: down on power, noisy (not in good way) low oil pressure, blowing oil out of the exhaust? Was it a private purchase?

Not so bad then, opportunity for an upgrade. Is the above your view or someone else's? Are TVRs always a working project? If you use them, yes.2. The bores are vertically scored and have what look like standard pistons.

When I brought the TVR it ran ok.
Not noisy or under powered , but having only driven two others a lack of knowledge has proven expensive.
I have to agree TVR look the 'dog b---- s' but if you drive them they can be expensive.
it was a private e-b -- purchase , but checked all the paper work & numbers .
I am totally wrong , it is a 350 se but without the engine options when purchased new.
anybody now a good cheap machine shop !!!
