Hopefully on top of it now rob but thanks for the offer.started off just thinking it was a hole in the exhaust manifold took it off welded it up then found out the cylinder head threads were stripped so couldn't get a seal when I put it back on hence the head coming off to get it helicoiled.

Damn shoulda posted up before taking off the head. On mine one of them (was already) stripped so I tapped it out to M10 in situ (or possibly M12, the next one up anyway). Did that 5 years ago - still going strong. In fact that port has the best seal ;^) So much so when the heads were off recently I didn't even bother fixing it properly.
Yeah some are tighter than others but sometimes you've gotta think outside the box - it you undo the engine mounts you can tilt the whole thing over in place which sometimes give you more room to manouver. (This also applies when re-fitting the heads and manifolds.)
Anyhow good luck hope you get it all back together in time.
