Well I bit the bullet and shelled out for a new PAS pump from Rimmers. I sucked out the old fluid from the resevoir before cracking off the hoses at the steering rack and moving the wheels from side to side to the sound of gurgling to extract any fluid from the rack. I then connected up the new pump. Is there anything else I need to do to get any old fluid out before refilling?

Hi Mate..You could try this but will need a helper, Connect your new pump up and cap off the return..(Non-union one)..to the pump with a piece of pipe and a bolt inside the pipe..Jubilee clip to both to avoid any leaks..Place the return pipe from the rack into an old bucket and remove the res cap on the pump...Be ready to pour with a litre of fluid and when ready get your helper to either crank or run the engine for a very short time, Do not rev it.. while you pour the fluid in, This will flush out any old fluid but be very careful not to run the pump dry...It might be better just cranking...You can do it the turkey baster way but that will always leave a small amount of old in there and take twice as long...Cheers..Ziga

PS:I pressume you know about bleeding once done?

Zig if you're just cranking the engine why not just turn the pump pulley over by hand - that will be very controllable.
