I think I'll treat her to a shiny new exhaust smile

There's a Longlife dealer near me in Swansea, who build the to any spec, or should I just go for a stocker?

I maybe want just a ickle bit more noise, but must not be too tiresome on motorway

Suggestions please?

Ha-ha! And now the spending starts, lol. "just get one of those....oh, that'd be nice...and what about..."

Can't help with exhaust but would guess stock is best from investment viewpoint

I asked Tim for modified centre box for a slightly louder / more angry noise for the SX and as promised this was delivered a week later...

And yes it is very loud !!! paperbag

I actually went the 'other way' (ie had to go for a quieter set up) but the exhaust was made by Warren @ Topcats' exhaust people. I'm very happy with it so I'm sure they'd make a louder one for you if you want one.

In the history of my car it had a '400 Sports System' fitted by RT so I guess it is their own system??

Sounds fruity enough for me smile

Just been quoted £499 inc VAT and fitting for a hand made stainless system ex manifolds as they describe "mild sport" - I think that's very good....

Comments?

Looking through my receipts I see I had a custom stainless 390SE single tail way back in 1995 from JP Exhausts which cost £370 so I reckon £499 sounds very good.

Thanks all smile

I'm also thinking about getting them to fit a pair of stainless manifolds too...

Rimmer Bros list a range, SD1, TR8, 4x4 etc, 3.5, 3.9 and then P38

Are the flanges(?) the same on all Rover V8s? Also need to consider the down pipe aspect of the manifolds, the connectors won't matter as the exhaust is built from scratch, I was thinking the SD1 or TR8 items?

You wont find any manifolds at Rimmers for a TVR. Stick to the known suppliers, e.g. ACT (who I think source from JP). Mine has an ACT "sports" centre box (in mild steel), which I very happy with, but really couldn't tell much of a difference with the standard factory system which I had on before. Another factor will be whether you ever wish to track the car - if so, anything non-standard in noise terms will definitely not be allowed (in the UK at least), and the chances are that even a standard system would not be allowed. One way around this is to buy (or make) a removable insert for the tailpipe for such events.

... having said that yes the Rimmer's manifolds will fit onto the engine itself.

I have a pair of Rimmer's Rangey manifolds in stainless and they are massively cheaper than ACT or even real TVR ones.

So the main problem is - how to make them fit between the engine and the Wedge chassis. The top bit near the exhaust ports looks OK, but the pipes lower down will probably have to be chopped about a bit.

Still, I think if you're into a bit of welding, some Rimmer's ones would be a good starting point.

Even the factory couldn't manage that without whacking a flat on one of the manifolds to clear

Ah, I see....

I wonder if anyone manufactures a pair of "shortened" manifolds? Tubular versions of the original cast manifolds, then the exhaust builder can start from there? Hope I'm making sense smile

Like these.... for an MGB GTV8

If I were you I would go for custom built everytime.

I brought off the shelf Stainless Manifolds and a sports System from the most mentioned exhaust supplier on here and neither of them fit correctly. After sending them back I still ended up getting the replacements altered myself.

I must admit they are a great fit now and no loss of diameter on the drivers side manifold outlet which has traditionally been modified with a hammer!

I've got some new manifolds for my wedge (still hanging up in the garage waiting to be fitted...!) and I'm pleased to see the drivers side one has a 'squeezed' section towards the end where it is really tight on the chassis...when I put my mild steel ones on I had to put some Blackpool magic into them (massive hammer) to get them to stop knocking and evn then it was tight!

Got my manifolds from act smile

I have stock manifolds and silencer but from there it goes straight back under the diff then out the back in stainless and defo louder than the up and over the suspension set up as standard but only when you floor it. On light throttle or cruising its quieter than before.

Thanks Jon, I'll point that out to the builder smile

With regards to the manifolds I think whilst the exhaust is off I'll ask them to remove, inspect and refit, hopefully they're okay smile

I've got stainless manifolds from ACT with the rest of the system custom made in stainless by www.custom-chrome.co.uk in Nuneaton. I'd certainly recommend them to anyone in the Midlands.

That is a very small box.. no wonder it's loud.
