Off the road for winter

That's it...last drive last night, picked the wife up from work. At 18:30 i might add, very strange looks from people in the usual queue on the A1M as i had my roof down..
I'm going to replace ball joints, bushes, steering column bush(es) and replace handbrake cable, and whatever else i will find..
I haven't tackled this level of spannering before, but i'm a firm believer that it's the only way to learn..
That and i recently got charged £700 pounds from a TVR (name withheld) dealer to have uj's fitted to the half shafts..!!!
Anyone else have similar plans over winter..?

As a fellow 400SE owner I would be very interested in hearing a progress report from time to time as I will be looking to do some, if not all, of the jobs you are bravely tackling, next year, and would appreciate any advise on what parts you end up needing and where you source them.

Sounds to me that you need to find yourself a good local independent, that's an extortionate price!
Offord's must be quite near you, they get good feedback on here.
Doing it yourself is always going to be the cheapest option and most satisfying as long as you have the space and facilities at home. And of course...the time!

Planning on starting this weekend Steve, sooner i start the better. I've ordered the bits from RT Racing...so here goes.
Your right about the extortionate price!!! I was not a happy bunny...and i made sure they knew it..!!
What is it with certain TVR dealers with prices, labour, part cost etc...!!! Bloody daylight robbery if you ask me.
My fault though, i should have obtained a quote 1st. I just never even considered for a second it would £700

Wayne - why not take the time to call round a few indy's now and compare them.
Job : Replace all 4 uj's on rear drive shaft's
Ask if a loan car is charged for (or is free with servicing).
If you had done this job yourself it probably would have cost about £150 (4 UJ's at about £20 each) and £70 for a propshaft company to remove old UJ's, fit new and balance.
Gotta say - it's a bitch of a job though.
