s2 350i bumper
Discussion
Anyone know how this should be attached to the car?
When the bumper was refitted to mine after it's respray (before I bought it) they refitted the bumper with self tappers from in the boot. I am sure not even TVR would have done that from the factory. The reason I know how it is attached is because the screws are pulling through the bumper and it is only a matter of time before the bumper falls off! I need to get this sorted this weekend as I am doing a "test day" at blyton on Monday and I don't want it to part company with the car on the motorway or on track.

hey
Had the same problem ,and put bolts and washers( some holes where to big) to fit it,(drilled new holes from the boot are)
Not the most simple thing,as behind the wheel the space is verry narrow!
I asked my wife to put here small hands in,mine did not fit.
The bumper fits the car pretty good now,

I've never taken the rear one off but what you describe is the same as the front: two bolts to each side with appropriate washers and nuts. Access was the most difficult aspect, IIRC I fitted longer bolts so that I could thread the nut on lower down where there was slightly more space to get my hands/fingers in but not too long that a long reach socket couldn't tighten it once you'd threaded the nut.Not the most simple thing,as behind the wheel the space is verry narrow!

Thanks to a couple of people pm ing me I now know this is the factory bodge rather than someone else's! I am going to to see if I can find a better solution, a Westfield owning mate has suggested some rivnuts that have a rubbery piece on the end either that or I will just have to go down the bigger bolt and body washer route as the holes are a fair bit bigger than they ought to be.
Thanks for the suggestions so far and if anyone has a better idea let me know!

The technique used on my car was two fabricated steel blocks, glassed-in to the bumper, that have studs protruding through into the boot, then large washers and nuts to secure.
The steelwork corrodes over time, leading to odd bulges in the GRP. I made new steel blocks and used stainless steel studs so the nuts wouldn't corrode-up as they had on the originals.
I'd post up a link to some pics but for some reason the server that hosts my webbie is down....
