Wedge seat height.
Discussion
Hi Peeps…Just wondering what the best way to raise the seat height in my first V8 would be…The reason i ask this is after fitting NSX200 seats into Delilah i really like the view over the bonnet…Im not a short arsh but do weigh a fair few pounds so would like a good method of doing so…I thought about getting some square steel plate to act as washers, Not sure what thickness they need to be probably 30-40mm although i will need to measure, I will be having the seats re-trimmed so its a good opportunity to do this…I could just buy another type of seat but would prefer to retain the original..All thoughts…Ideas and sarcasm appreciated…Cheers…Ziga
I would keep the original seats and have them reupholstered. Pack with metal washers to increase height, but use large washers, or at least a large washer plate on the bottom against the fiber glass floor to increase surface area, otherwise, in time the washers will cut through the fiber glass floor.

Zig,
I'm interested in what you're saying, because as I am almost, but not quite, 2 metres tall, I have the opposite problem, and am often looking for LOWER seats. Are you saying the NSX200 seats are a lot lower than the original wedge seats ? (useful to know !)
My wedge seats are a bit tired, but works for me as I sink down a bit lower.
As an aside, if youre looking at seat mounts, my wedge has the exhaust boxes under the seats (the 'export' system apparently ?) and there's a burned hole under BOTH seats, not very neatly patched up. I'm thinking if you have a similar setup, may be worth using a large ally panel or similar, both to spread the weight and to work as a heat shield ? Just a thought.....
[ Elvis, on kit car floors, I would get the seat rail types which lie flat on the floor, which helps spread the load without having to raise with washers, to get seats as low as possible....]

I don't know if this would be an option for you as you may prefer to stick with the original seats? But my 350i FHC has some really nice after market seats in mint condition fitted. But they are quite a bit higher that the ones in my DHC so much so that they pin my bonce against roof.
Let me know if you want some picks as I would love another set of original seats regardless of colour/condition.
Karl.

Hi Andy…The NSX seats are actually higher, I might be jumping the gun a little as when i first bought Delilah the seats where totally knackered and i was almost sitting on the floor so i will see what these are like..Thats an interesting solution with the plate..Delilah originally had the langford system which had the rectangle boxes under the seats but they were replaced with cherry bombs…Food for thought…CheersI'm interested in what you're saying, because as I am almost, but not quite, 2 metres tall, I have the opposite problem, and am often looking for LOWER seats. Dixie done this a while back, I am sure he fitted some wooden chocks under his seat and used longer bolts to refit the seat. I am sure he will be along in a while to offer advice.

Hi Rob…Yeah i remember Dix doing something like that..But I'm wondering if the seat rail can be modified to give more height…CheersRob

hi zig 8,i just put a bit wood under the seat ,its about 1ins high, sitting a 3mm metal plate about 3ins sq,only at the back off seat ,
Hi Dave…I need more height than that mate…Maybe i should make them more like armchairs...
…Cheers for all the suggestions…ZigaThanks Zig,
Sounds like your (Delilah's) seats were as bad as mine, the webbing all streched, and over bigger bumps/holes, one's arse hits the floor....
Yeah - my system has the two boxes under the seats with pipes going in/out sideways. Kept mine as it's all stainless, but whoever fitted it must have put it far too close to the floor - even now floor gets hot, hence the heat sink idea, which I'll probably be doing.

Hi mate…Funnily enough when i was having the gearbox worked on i noticed the exhaust mounting under the seats…They still had the rubber ties on and they are really close to the floor…Perhaps they were meant as bum warmers!..
..Good idea about fitting some kind of heat shield..Cheers…Zigahallsie said:
