Anyone know how is best to sort out movement in the door hinge? I can see the movement is in the sleeve at the top part of the hinge under the 19mm securing nut, is there some sort of bush in there that can be replaced or is it just a metal pin in a metal sleeve?

Yeah, there's a nylon bush top and bottom of the steel tube. Five minute job in a lathe... once you get the old one out and figure out what the dimensions are wink

Hi Mate..I take it its Delilah's O/S door?…That has always had movement in it and it was tightened up a bit a little while ago..As Wedg1e say's there is a nylon bush in the hinge which has probably become oval..Another one of the jobs that was on the bottom of my list…That didn't get done…Cheers..Ziga

I suppose it's the sort of thing that needs making rather than buying? Or is there someone with a stock of them?

Cheers, littlewooly

For us mere mortals, it's a case of "I'm sure I've got something close to that in my 'old washers' pile in the corner", followed by "where's my file ?"

I was thinking about "shimming" it with a couple of choice washers but didn't think it would make much difference. I would put it at the bottom of the list but having to shunt the door every time you want to get out is a tad embarrassing and more to the point I may break my precious door! frown

Slam it!..What's a matter with ya..You could try loosing the nut at the top..A little mind..Get the old git to support from the bottom corner of the door..Lift up a little and re-tighten..Not too much or the door will be a lot stiffer to close..Ziga

PS: Just don't break the handles as they have a back to them….I also forgot to give you the 1/4 " MDF with the door cards drawn on them for cutting out..I think i still have the paper template if you want it..

I think you are missing the point the nut on top holds the shaft that runs through the hinge in place the bearing surface is indeed a nylon bush held in the tube on the outside and the shaft runs through the bush on the inside the only way to reduce the play is a new bush only other way to lift the door is release the four fixings (best of luck) that attach the door loft it slightly and retighten.

I think we'll end up taking the door off to get dimensions then getting some kind sole to make up some bushes so we can re fit door properly, be able to do mine as well, only thing is even with door off for a week or,so the youngster still wants to drive her, getting like mad max syndrome around here.

I would like to fit some nylon washers as discussed here. Can anyone give me some sizes for the washers to either get manufactured or where to buy?

Cheers

They were still available a couple of years ago. I had mine changed by Roath Garage and he got them from a tvr supplier.
