HI All,

Managed to find a 2nd hand vented bonnet for my 350i (very chuffed with this) and will be getting it sprayed up shortly.

My query is where can I get the under bonnet insulation from ? Is the original spec /type still the stuff to have or is there something of a better quality in this day and age.

My final question is , is the insulation for heat , acoustic damping or a combination of both ?

Many Thanks

Jeremy

Hi Mate…Originally i believe it was for sound insulation as it was vinyl…If you want it the same or as near as to the original with the TVR logo then i know someone who might be able to help…If not there are modern under bonnet insulators that are heat proof…This is just one alternative…Ziga

Hi Zig,

Thanks for the link , really useful. I am rather interested in the opportunity to have an original style insulation with a bling TVR logo on it, something that my wedge does not have at present.

Any idea (ball park figure) of how may pennies I would need to part with for this ?

Cheers

Did you manage to get the 390 se style of vented bonnet? If so i'm well jealous, been looking for one now for a good two years at least, wooly.

Hi Wooly,

Yes I have found a vented 390 bonnet, which I know are as rare as hens teeth so very chuffed with myself.

Did not appreciate how big the bonnet is as thought it would easily go in the back of my estate car but instead had to put on the roof bars and drive back a 100 miles , bricking it that I did not have it as securely fixed due to lack of straps available. Had a vision of going down the A1M / M25 / M40 and seeing this white fibreglass bonnet disappearing under a large HGV or something wink

That sometime happens even after fitting! Make sure you wire-lock the bonnet bolts.

Im on it mate….A paper template will be needed which should be taken from either the old one or from the underside of the bonnet if its off the car..smile
