Anyone have any ideas on how to make my 2.8 a bit quieter, it's got a cherry bomb on both pipes from each bank of cylinders, I was thinking about getting another 2 cherry bombs to put where the back boxes would be, but I don't want to spend the money if it's not going to make much difference to the noise. I do still want it to be loud, but not as loud as it is at the moment. Any other ideas are welcome smile

Ask Zig if he still has the bits he took out of Delilahs exhaust to make her louder biggrin

Personally I thought Delilah made a great noise, it just means you need a gentle touch on the throttle until you want the noise.

ps my wife hates my wedge because it makes too much noise, the other day she heard me set off at some lights 1/4 of a mile away and knew it was me

They got thrown in the bin….You should be happy that you have the loudest 280i Wedge..Its even louder than quite a few V8's…smile
If you put cherry bombs as rear silencers you will knock around 5-8 DB's off..She was 119DB at 4000rpm..If you want a better sound then it might be worth finding a good exhaust fitter who understands tone…Either that or get some ear muffs….Ziga

I do feel proud zig! But I do come home after 10.30 most nights so i end up going out in the mini or the skoda to keep the neighbours happy, but I'd rather be out wedging, 2 cherry bombs come to about £80. Are there any other options that are fairly cheap that would lower the noise a bit more than they would?

When my exhaust was a little bit broken on my old 350i, I was going to see a mate in a village and he could hear me coming from 2 miles away! He knew it was me 'cos I arrived 90 seconds later...

Well i must be totally honest now…Yesterday 3 people pulled out in front of me and one of them nearly got a smack in the eye for giving it large when they were in the wrong….This has happened a few times since i have been driving poppy around…When i used to drive Delilah NO-ONE pulled out in front of me!…Im beginning to think maybe poppy needs an open exhaust system also but i love the V8 soundtrack as is…Most of my mates years ago were bikers and the saying of.."Loud pipes saves lives" couldn't be more true..Also when i had Delilah when visiting people the tea was already made and on the table as they heard me coming the last mile…The cherry bombs will make it sound more raspy like a big fart...biggrin

I find my 400SE a little on the quiet side, it has what looks to be quite a large silencer in the middle, which is the lowest point under the car, and the part that skims or sometimes hits speed bumps.

The exhaust is due replacement anyway, looking to get one built, but with a smaller silencer or maybe the aforementioned cherry bomb, for two reasons:-

More noise and improved ground clearance smile
