Was lying down on the driveway for no particular reason and spotted this. Scared to brush off the rust in case it starts pissing fuel everywhere!

The chassis flaking looks normal , cut the cable ties, wire brush it and use some nice coarse emery cloth or similar to get around the awkward bits, put some rust treatment on followed by hamerite, the swirl pot can be replaced easily , got mine from RT but ,David Gerald or others should have them, might want to put a pre filter on before the pump that you can service/clean, replace those hoses and clips too with the correct fuel grade pipe.

Having gone through the history of the car again (what I have of it that is) seems like the fuel pump, hoses, swirl have never been touched. So probably quite a bit of work going to be required.

Any suggestions on fuel hose suppliers?

I got mine from Hills Rubber Co in Reading but a dare say google can give you a few more names, needs to be benzene friendly and able to cope with the pumped pressure, I ran new ones down the offside sill outrigger instead of down the middle to avoid the heat. What have you decided about your dash facia?

Believe me so did I, I was sat in the car at the time it went woof.

First thing I did when I got my new wedge was get the fuel lines in the engine bay checked (I knew that the rear end had been done immediately before I bought it)

Dash fascia I still need to decide, but that's being pushed disc the list for me to deal with this.

Need to buy: axle stands (I know...), Swirl pot, pre filter, couple metres or so of fuel hose, probably a new filter, a load of new clamps, bolts, washers and somewhere to stick the 20l of v-power I put in yesterday morning. Tempted to take the shortcut and just take it to Elmwood to sort out...

I have 4 of the collapsible stands that I bought from Screwfix a good while ago. They are surprisingly sturdy when they are set up, and take a lot less space up when not in use.

Buy a 20 ltr jerry can then ya v power can go in that, they're really handy for when there's an offer on petrol for the daily hack as well. Get the heavy duty axle stands for bigger vehicles so you can use it on those if you have them and you feel a lot safer too.

I looked at replacing the 5/8" hoses and contracted it out to a youngster with a proper lift. There is very littler room to work in up in there while on your back with the rust of ages falling in your eyes (safety glasses on of course). I doubt you can change the upper (2"?) hose with the tanks in place. And slice the ends length-wise lest you damage the tank ends twisting(forcing)them off. Grady

Aye they'll do; the same stands are sold by every man and his dog in different colours but they're all made in China.
You may as well look around for the best mail order price, I'm sure I paid rather less than that for mine.
My Wedge has been sat on them with its ar53 in the air for over a year and nothing (not even the chassis wink) has given way yet...

Hi Mate..You can if you cut the hose just slightly over half the length of the joining collars, Then push the hose to it's furthest point on one end and then there should be enough room to get the other end on..Just make sure the (Good quality)..Jubilee clips are nearer to the ends of the hose to avoid any flaring.
We managed it on the 280i but the it was nitrile lined silicone..(Flourosilicone)...which is a bit more flexible...Although its probably better using something a bit more rigid but don't use the 2" with the steel helix as it doesn't seem to clamp as tight, I used these guys for the larger size hose but its best to call them as they don't show a great deal of what they stock..The ID of the 2" is 51mm...Ziga

Fuel hoses and ethanol http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=131...

Cost of replacement vs. risk is a no-brainer.

The fuel pipe clamps are useful, I carry a set in the boot, you never know, you know.
