Been thinking about fitting one of these ( well you never know!) Not going racing or anything but just for peace of mind. Where would I get one from? Are they bespoke or is there another alternative ? Thanks in advance fellas Ron biggrin

Try Rollcentre
They supplied mine and I think they were the only source.

I've always been a bit wary of having a roll bar without wearing a crash helmet.

Know what you mean Paul . Think Chris has a lump of padding on the hoop to protect his noggin.
On another note the wheel cap you gave me looks a little better

Cap is body colour and badge silver - not original but I like it biggrin Thanks again
Ron

Hi Henry. Is that a roll centres bar too? I know you have door bars as well. Paul( No 7 ) has got me worried about head clearance now. All you guys with roll bars do you have issues with banging the old noggin? Must admit I'm only 5'10" but there's not much room between my bonce and the roof as is without trying to squeeze in a roll bar between them!

Is the windscreen frame designed to withstand a rollover?

Wouldn't have thought so. Might be some reinforcement in the frame to stiffen it up but looking at the rake of the frame it'd take a massive amount of strength at the base to make it strong enough to survive a roll-over.

Ron, that looks very smart - is it painted or plastic chrome stuff?

Some years ago there was a great deal of discussion about this on this forum. IIRC - the conclusion was to make the bar actually useful in a rollover, you needed a full cage because the windshield frame is barely structural and you will wind up with the steering wheel in your lap, you needed a 5 point belt to keep you place and helmet to keep your head in one piece. Basically a full racing kit. Of course, as pictured above, some folks added a simple roll bar anyway. Grady

The windscreen frame is nowhere near of securing anyting in case of rollover, at least not on my car.

The possible headache from the rollover bar is a valid argument. OTOH, without the bar there probably won't be any chance for headache after rollover, ever (at least if the car lands upside down). Fortunately the wedge is wide and low, so it's not that profound to roll over and the headache can come from a simple rear hit, so it's up to each one of us, which possibility is the less concerning one.

Just painted Paul. Got the centres from e bay. They come up a little bit small(45mm to the original 47mm I think) but look ok on the cap.

I am sorry Ron, I do not quite understand what you mean.

I bought the roll bar kit five years ago from Tower View Race Services, which I think is now defunct. I do remember it did not fit and had to be tailored for my car. That could have been the old saying "...every TVR is different...".

Yes, I have extra tubing just inside the sills and joined by one that supports the pedal box. The windscreen has no strength. I wanted to include extra tubing round it, but it would have looked a bit ridiculous. I think that I have the best compromise for safety and rigidity that enables the suspension to do its job without the chassis flexing. At least I can open and close the doors and they close almost like a Golf - cool

I am am over six feet one inch and headroom and position is an issue. I am resolving it by dropping the floor pan on the driver's side by a couple of inches. I will let you know the outcome.

If you live in the south try stoner racing in Basingstoke. They can fit them at very competitive rates. They did a good job on a full cage for my griff last summer.
