Im currently refurbing an inlet manifold for my new V8 engine.

when I took the plenum top off, I found one very loose trumpet, and 3 others that were movable and I could easily pull out, one of the holes looks as though it has been rattling around for a while as its got some wear damage at the top!

Ive got a couple of spare trumpet bases that I can use so no problem there.

Would this have caused any running problems?
should they have been glued or fixed in some way?

Hi Stuart, I found a loose trumpet in my inlet manifold, think I applied some silicone to hold it and pushed it back in its hole. Dunno about performance though, or tunes!

Silicone won't last. I bought a job lot of the special glue off Ebay - one tube does all 8 trumpets. Give me an email and a tube will be yours for a beer tokem... it's Loktite green stuff.

Just found it - Loctite 648. I researched the temperatures and it should put up with anything, and it survives in the supercharged wedge (where silicone only lasted a matter of months).

All posted for less than the price of a pint! (Excluding Vaux ;^)

Yes mate, took it all to pieces at work today and found they were loose with some damage on the the trumput base where they must have been rattling around.

No worries, Ive got a couple of spare bases and trumpet sets Ill clean up and fit them.

Thanks Adam, Ill message you tomorrow and sort some tokens out for the loctite.

You could take 10-20mm off the bottom of each trumpet while they're out; allegedly good for a squillion extra horsepower (though it does raise the torque peak up the rev range, or so learned boffins tell me)...

As it happens mine had 15mm taken off; I couldn't tell you what difference it made as I had no 'before and after' data.
