Another V8 brown trouser moment
Discussion
... following a beamer today who pulled back into lane one on dual carriage way... to reveal an effing big puddle about 50m in front.
No time to do much apart from come off the gas a little but not too much, some sideways movement and twitching on the way through but kept it together.
Enough boating for one day I think.... watch out for those puddles boys and girls!

Scary. I've booked myself for the Shelsley Walsh breakfast on Sunday morning so intending to brave the floods no matter what. We live on the flood plain so flood defences were up and running Wednesday night with 14" of flood water in the road and against the bloody expensive flood wall.
Another word of warning...
Very wet and floody on the way to work this morning (Kent, so par for the course since before Christmas!) and all the pot holes were hidden underwater... Turned into the road where I work and there were four cars with burst front tyres all lined up at the side of the road!!
It's not just aquaplaning chaps! Avoid the puddles like the plague!

That reminds me of one of my 'scariest driving moments ever' ....
On the M62, many years ago, over Pennines on the Yorkshire side. There is a section where the Mway curves left and goes up a rise, with a bridge across almost at the bottom, in just the right place to block visibility up the rise.
I was driving a Fiesta rental car (for work at customer site), it's pouring with rain, visibility generally awful, real bad spray, doing about 65 ish, inside lane, with idiots still hooning past me.
I get to bottom and suddenly can see a vast display of red and yellow flashing lights, standing traffic, and get that terrible "Oh Sh*t !!" moment. I can't possibly stop in time. I'm about to be dead. In that split second, I see the grass bank on my left, and head for it. I hit the brakes AFTER steering for the bank.....I hit the bank with a pretty big thump, and bang my head on the roof. But....I come to a stop on the bank.
The guy behind me (on the tarmac) crashes headlong into the stopped car which was in front of me. I exit the car VERY quickly and run up the bank, in fear of my life. I hear the terrible noises of crashes, tyres sliding on wet tarmac, (no screeches, just that hiss type noise), bending metal, etc. After a short while, the pile up builds backwards, and the traffic can see it, and there are still bumps and crashes, but the force fades away. I should have gone down to help immediately, but it took me a few minutes to get myself together, by which time I was part of a small crowd trying to check out the carnage, and hope no-one was dead. Then we hear the police sirens and there are several policemen on the scene, then the ambulances.
A bit later, it seemed that no-one actually died, which amazed me looking at the mess on the carriageway.
Some serious injuries though.
Police took names and addresses for witness statements, and I had a big release of laughter when he said "so which one is yours ?" looking at the bent pile, and I pointed to the Fiesta on the bank, and he said "Well, I'm glad no-one else tried that, but it worked for you".
A couple of cops helped me get it back on the tarmac, and it was actually driveable afterwards !! The first thing I did was to take it to the nearest Avis and swop it with an explanation of why.....

Thats sounds very scary mate....I have witnessed a fair few major pile ups and been in a 70mph rear end shunt and nearly got run over as i fell out of the car and staggered across two lanes of moving traffic without realising!...
But the scariest and probably most exciting was when i was travelling to Ramsgate in kent one early morning, It had rained all day and there was partial flooding in some areas..I came round a wide left hand bend on the M2 on the inside lane..I was in a Mini Metro..The road was dry even though it had rained all day so i was doing the speed limit of 70mph and as i came round the bend i saw that there was a massive amount of water sitting from the inside lane to almost the outer lane....The first thing i thought was.."Holy f
k"!!!...I felt the car lift up what seemed a couple of inches then as i entered the apex i felt the car starting to drift and the rear end was starting to float out...The next minute i was looking at the grass embankment and side crash barrier...Then the central crash barrier...Before i realised i had done a 360 and ended up facing the right way....I was lucky that the massive puddle finished where it did....I think it was fear that made me laugh out loud like a lunatic for the rest of the journey.
If i could of guaranteed the same result i think i would of gone back and done it again....
