Looks a treat. Next time I'm selling a car I'm going to get this bloke to write the add. Have a read. Brilliant

I considered this car a few months ago. The seller is here on PH.

In the end, I just couldn't make the maths stack up, although the seller did say he would meet me on the mainland with it, so for someone local (unlike being in Scotland like me) then it might be worth while.

Looks like the view across the bay to St Helier on Jersey; would you want a car that's spent its life (or a chunk of it) surrounded by salt water?
On the other hand, there's only one road on the island long enough to give it some welly - and the Police sit on it! So it may have had an easy life...

But surely a concern would be that it may have spent its life at a max speed of 40mph. What would happen when you opened it up on the open road here...On the other hand, there's only one road on the island long enough to give it some welly - and the Police sit on it! Evening all.... Nice to see my ad getting some attention! I'm over in Guernsey (the best of the islands) but getting it to the UK shouldn't be too bad. I've had some conversations with various people (hmrc etc), and my understanding is as follows;
1) The car will probably require VAT to be paid, but potentially not all bad news, because there is a good argument to say that the 390 is a collectors item (like artwork or similar) and is only only charged at 5% of its 'purchase' price.. about £300. Not too bad.
2)The MOT fiasco. this one is a bit of a headache - the car will need to be assigned new plates as soon as a UK resident takes ownership. So perhaps if the new purchaser was insured correctly, the documents could be delayed for a day or two which would mean it is still owned my me and therefore, not being a UK car doesn't require an MOT.. Like if i brought it over (?) I also wouldn't mind the excuse for a road trip if the price is right and i can get too and from fairly cheaply...
The car is lovely. Its not perfect but its pretty good. I did about 30 miles in her today whist the sun was out and she didnt miss a beat.. My guess is that in the last 3 years she's only covered about 1,000 miles which is probably too few. This might explain the mis-fire it had when i purchased it (seller, if you are reading this, thanks very much!!!!) but a new coil, amp, temp sensor, plugs etc etc etc and all sorted. Turned out to be a bad connector on the amp!? there is a very detailed history file with the car, all the service history even down to car washes and fuel put it.
Hope i havn't said too much in terms of sales talk for the forum, but if anyone wants any pictures or details just drop me a line. she is pretty....

that's a nice car, maybe put some pics up off the inside,engine,and more off the body,
Good plan! This should help people decide if it'l go over 40mph! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_OutnRdyYQ&fea...TA DA!
Just look - no stone chips on the nosecone.... no traffic to follow! ;^)
Thinking about the VAT issue - surely (from your description) the car was sold in the UK first and VAT was charged at the time. So to charge VAT again would be a kind of double jeopardy - there might therefore be a good argument to avoid the VAT especially if you have the original bill of sale showing VAT on it. (Unless you claimed VAT back on export - which is unlikely?)
Got it - you need to claim Returned Goods Relief. Has it been over there for less than 3 years? If not you have to apply specially.
Also the plates would revert to the original UK ones wouldn't they?
