About this time every year i eye up cars that i intend to soon buy.
Usually something happens that means the plan falls through.
This year however there is nothing foreseeable that has me worried so i think i should have some money to buy my self a toy come September.

So my latest idea is to run a Wedge or 290s as a second car to my MR2.
So, as per the title, whats the least and most your wedge has cost you in a year? Excluding the initial purchase?
Thank you.

Thats very good!

A bit of background.
A year and a half ago i bought a v8 Jag with more faults than a faulty thing. Paid enough to buy a fault free one, but didnt check it over properly.
I sold it with the faults still there for half what i paid.
I got burned badly and now when ever i look at quick/exclusive/rare cars i always imagine the worst.

I dont mind fixing faults. Happy to splash a grand a year on unpredicted maintenance.

Do the electronics regularly play up on wedges and are most of the parts readily available?
What happens to the prices during the summer? How much can i expect them to increase by?

2013 which was the tenth year of ownership mine cost nothing other than oil and filter change, but the year before my head gaskets went and back section of my exhaust gave up so had to have a custom stainless section madeup so spent about 1500 sods.

I'm about the same as Dix, 1st £70 new battery, £450 new tyres.
2nd year £nil, 3rd nil so far touch wood. (other than mods and changes i wanted to make). i've a german pile of pish that i've had for 6months and spent more on that engine than the tvr's. its a bloody bam.
Again as with Dix, i've spent more on rusties, fags and ale in the last three years than i have on necessasities for the tvr.

It is like asking how longs a piece of string, I've had mine 15 years for the first 10 years all I spent was tax insurance and service parts so less than £500 each year except one year when it needed a new clutch.
The last 5 has been more expensive but partly down to me wanting to upgrade, and needing a new engine but that was still only £1500 fitted which I think is reasonable.
So I guess it is down to the car you buy and how lucky you are and how much you want to upgrade and how much of your time you want to put into it.

Ps. Fuel doesn't count as an expense it's what creates V8 music laughlaugh

I do 6-7k miles a year and my most expensive service (when I still paid for them) was £800. Usually £3-400.

Now I service it myself and spend maybe 20-30 hours a year of my time plus parts/oil etc, which cost maybe £100 on a cheap year up to £200-£300.

Tyres are usually £100-£150 per axle for good ones if you buy when they are on offer.

Oh aye and the last 5 years about a grand on rusty nails.

Dix and Marcus [and the rest of us]spend that amount on Rusties because it's part of the car now, as well as having it there incase you run out of petrol.

NOTE

They do actually drink it - and not run the cars on it as an Octane Booster!!!!!

HTH

PS this year has been most expensive for me as I lost 3rd gear (still had another 5 to use (inc reverse))
Approx £350 for full gearbox refurb and £150 for new clutch while engine already out
Other than that most cost has been upgrades rather than any particular problem

I've only had mine since June last year and have spent
£400 on new carpets and £145 on a set of alloy roof bars and then tax & insurance so not too bad for my first venture into wedge ownership

My current wedge Most expensive year was the first 12 months of ownership.

However that was a "recommission/rebuild" (the car had been sat for about 13 years!) some of which was unexpected.

Including the respray and changing out the engine (twice!) came to about £3k I reckon.

The car did get me both to Cornwall and back and Le Mans and back on consecutive weekends so I can't really grumble

Cheapest year so far is this year (nothing spent so far) but the MOT is due soon so who knows, but generally its been relatively cheap to run, yes it has had "issues" (relatively minor but iritating things like fuel pump and wiring issues) but overall it's been very good.

As my wedge was an "eBay" purchase I reckon I've done quite well from it.

Although I'm a serial blinga the Wedge is surprisingly cheap to run...Im really impressed with the MPG of my V8 even though it doesn't concern me that much its just something else to make you smile...Oh i nearly forgot..The majority of the time when money is spent on them you will either see or feel the difference...I have had some shyte cars in the past and have spent bundles on them just keeping them on the road...My biggest regret was not buying a Wedge 10+ years ago....I love my Wedge and thats why i spoil her with some Wedge on Wedge action...
The most expensive year was last year when i supercharged my 280i which cost in excess of 4K...Only to be ruined by my lack of patience...A word of advice..(One which i should of listened to) is don't bother...Just buy a V8...driving

I'm not at home so don't have my box-file of receipts to hand but at the last count, 13.5 years of owning my 390SE stood me at something like £3500 (exc. fuel, tax, insurance).
That said there isn't much I won't tackle myself (apart from paintwork and interior trim) so I've probably saved a year's salary in garage fees (but probably spent a year of my life working on it wink).

I never expect to pay less than £1k for a routine service, plus the same again in a year for repairs. Most expensive single year was £ 10k (new engine). I know, would have been cheaper to buy a V8 but I always tend to ignore sensible advice.

eek
1K for a routine service - you need to bring it up to Yorkshire, Lad (term of endearment in Yorksha)

You could drop it for service and have a couple of nights at the NO 1 hotel in all England (Rudding Park nr Harrogate)
and still have change out of £1000 - when most of the cost would be the hotel not the service anyway!!!!!

AND £10K for an new engine (Even a Cosworth)double eekeek
I would have gone mega LS route and halves the cost IMHO

Look forward to seeing it sometime

All the best
Trickie

And that's without the cost of rebuilding said engine after the garage that supplied & installed it promptly ceased trading.

Not being as 'hands on' as some on here I leave most jobs to the professionals, resulting in some costly decisions. Only in hindsight have I realised the error of my ways, my enthusiasm often getting the better of me.
