Front Wheel Bearing
Discussion
Are you sure it's shot? There should be a small amount of play in the front wheel bearings as they're taper rollers and would seize if set up with no clearance.
Some MOT testers/ mechanics these days have minimal knowledge of cars from pre-front-wheel-drive days and will tell you a slack bearing is shot... which it would be on a front-drive car.

Not being a mechanical genius I don;t know for sure but the car has developed a groan and it is defo coming from that corner. I did jack it up and I can't feel an mega play in the wheel, it is just the noise. Some MOT testers/ mechanics these days have minimal knowledge of cars from pre-front-wheel-drive days and will tell you a slack bearing is shot... which it would be on a front-drive car.
Should I be looking at anything else?? Could it just need greasing or are they sealed bearings??
Many moons ago I owned a Mk3 Cortina 2000E. Our cars have the same front suspension. Nevertheless, the car had its front wheel bearing go and from what I recall the symptoms were wheel vibration but on steering - particularly at low speed - there was the sound of crunching almost as though it were the sound of metal grating against metal.
