...this - a new ignition amp!

By skilled testing and process of elimination (I'm guessing cos two people I know who had ignition amps going on their TVRs had exactly the same symptoms!) I decided it was worth splashing £18 on a new one.

Question though: someone has said don't put the silicon heat sink grease on as the back plate helps get a good earth. Thoughts?

Out of interest, what were the symptoms?

I was told that the paste is to prevent heat soak to the unit.. if you dont put enough on, the amp will fail again in no time. might be rubbish though. also, check the connector, one of mine was corroded for some reason which caused a signal problem... led me to sontinue my misfire goose chase!

True - the earthing goes through the screws that screw it down, I think.

Imperative that you use good quality heat sink paste fella otherwise it will fail in no time. This is to aid the heat dissipation to the dizzy body. Thin film and do not over do it. Maplins have it in a handy syringe couple of quid yes

Use the heat sink compound, it is needed for good thermal conduction.

You'll get a tube of heat sink in any good heating parts suppliers , saw some in Graham builders merchants today as it happens.

If you are worried about the earthing, take a lead from the fixing screws to earth on the dissy or engine somewhere.
