Hi Now the SX is on the road I'm looking for something that is going to give some access to the under side of the wedge for routine maintenance, I would love a two post lift but haven't the room ! So then came across this http://www.cjautos.eu/MINI_TILTING_CAR_LIFT_p/cl03... what do you think guys ? I know its pricey but its looks to give good access to most things, also portability of the unite looks fairly easy as well..

I quite like these, same company and cheaper but better support. Don't like those tilters on a wedge chassis

With The tilting jobby all the load is transferred via the sill - any weakness in the outriggers will quickly become apparent with hilarious consequences biggrinbiggrin

Hi Martin

Look forward to seeing the car sometime buddy yes No excuse for not getting up to one of the meets now lol!

I personally do not like anything that lifts the car on the outriggers, even with rails or rubber blocks. Its going to stress a part of the car that is not designed for lifting on or even jacking on. I use long reach ramps that I drive the car onto if I am not doing anything that requires the wheels or suspension hanging. If I do then I use high reach axles stands with a low entry trolley jack to get the car in the air high enough for the stands.

I've got a very old set of those they are better than normal ramps but take time to raise. I use an impact driver to lift them a few inches at a time each side.

I also have a set of the hydraulic ramps they sell. They are brilliant. Just drive on and pump the jacking unit.

Got to avoid lifting on the outriggers at all costs, or it will be costly. Needs black/yellow "no lifting point" tags. Interesting device but looks like hard work and could be disastrous.

Work harder and buy a house with a triple garage and a proper vehicle lift.

No definitely don't like that on a wedge chassis, remember you'll be under it when it gives way, the wheel ramps are a safer bet so long as the ramp can be locked in position once up, wouldn't rely on hydraulics or pneumatics alone.
I fancy digging a deep pit in my garage for me to fall into, I think I'd prefer falling to being crushed. Wooly

These are the ones I have mate. As Wooly says there's a mechanical lock on them so you don't have to worry about the hydraulics failing. They come up on the bay now and then for 250-300 second hand. Worth every penny.

I don't like the other ones so much as you are depending on the threaded rod to hold the weight. However mine are very old so the new ones may be better.

Think these look great. Once old "toy" is sold then may well invest in a pair. To get Wedge on my old ramps I need to use two strips of old floor board, to get me on to the new ramp extensions which then get me on to my old sturdy ramps without ripping the front spoiler off. Pain in the a**e.

They are more or less identical to mine at less than the secondhand value! Wonder what the shipping would cost. They could be a bargain. Well spotted.

Even the old ste windup ones go for 100-150 on the bay and they can be hard work

I've sent them an e-mail asking for shipping costs to UK and if they respond I'll post it here. (save us all doing it and pissing them off!!!) smile

They look good but it's not clear from the pics whether they lie properly flat so you can drive onto them?

The C J Autos ones fold down very low. You can drive straight on without catching front or rear.

They look good - if it's possible to use them in conjunction with rear ramps they would be even better! But it looks like they push the car back about a foot while they lift?

So be careful using them in the garage or the rear could hit the back wall...

Yep as Adam says. You have to be careful with that. As you can see from the pick one up one down they move the car at least 6".

The other thing to remember is don't leave the car in gear or apply the handbrake when lifting or lowering the front wheels. Apply once in position though biggrin

they look like good ramps. Is there anything fitted to lock them in the up position then or does it totally rely on the hydraulics?
