Hi All
As car up on ramps and axle stands doing a lot of checking cleaning underneath, and noticed the hose stated is starting to split/crack just after where fitted with the jubilee clips at both ends, there is a fair bit of hose so was thinking of just cutting back as required and refit with new clips. Will I get petrol coming from here when I disconnect, would expect some but will there be a lot as tank is half full at moment.
Thanks
Deke

Hi Mate...The idea of the swirl pot is to always supply the pump with fuel so it will have a fair bit in there..TBH i would change the whole length of the hose and check the other side...Ziga

The swirl pot on mine is fitted directly to both tank outlets so if you disconnnect the pump from it, it will try to empty both tanks onto the floor...

Do we know what internal diameter the hose would be? looks like half inch or slightly bigger outside diameter. If its that kind of job may as well fit new hoses. Sods law that car has been sorned so next to no fuel in it but have recently been topping up with a can or two.
Thanks

It's Bigger then 12mm, I tried to replace mine with 12mm without draining the tanks, ended up with a lot of unleaded down my arm and put the original back. I suspect it's nearer 19mm, maybe someone else can confirm ?

There's an almost random selection of hose sizes on the rear tank set up, and I suspect it changed over the years. I wouldn't try and shorten an existing piece of hose as it hardens with age, new hose is readily available so why do that?

On my cars (both '86) the pipes into the 'swirl pot' are 5/8" and the outlet is 1/2".
Most of the rest of the pipe is 8mm (from pump to engine) but the return line to the nearside tank is 10mm at the tank (so needs an 8-10 adapter); and the vent off the 'swirl pot' to the nearside tank is 6mm (1/4"?).

The large diameter pipes are available from Merlin Motorsport (as fuel/oil hoses) and the big filler pipes, if you need them, can be bought from cbsonline. Make sure it's all unleaded compatible, diesel fuel hose or unlined silicon pipe will NOT do!

I wouldn't advise just changing one of them, do the whole lot while you're in there. Removing the nearside tank makes the job a doddle too; empty the tanks first by wedging the AFM flap open and running the fuel pump using the ignition switch to drain the fuel into cans. There's a one way pressure sensitive valve on the pump outlet so you can disconnect that without loosing gallons of fuel (only the fuel in the line to the engine will drain out).

And make sure no-one wanders up to you with a lit fag while you're at it...

Mine has 5/8" hose tanks to swirlpot and the same swirlpot to pump. I bought Coast Guard approved marine fuel hose, available here at boat stores.
