It arrived today - and unexpectedly it's colour-coded to my car...

Check out my new under-bonnet bling!

(Only one problem though...)

Exactly! And now you can't see it at all!

Because on my way in this morning the car cut out about 5 miles into the journey. I had little warning - it started running a bit funny but seemed fine when you revved it hard, It then ran for about a mile and conked completely.

I had spark at the king leads and none at the plug ends. By a process of elimination I got to the stage where I suspected the rotor arm (despite it being quite new). Luckily I had followed my own code of "keep everything you just took off in the car if possible" so I still have the old ignition leads, cap, amplifier and coil. The old rotor arm had found its way between the drivers seat and central tunnel, but when put on - instant gratification!

Looking at the "new" one it doesn't look to bad but there's a small black spot to the right of the "key" lug - that is actually carbon and reads 9M ohms - so it's shorting the rotor to the central shaft on the dizzy = earth. The plastic has broken down completely.

(Sorry it's a bit blurry)

Shame it ran really sweet up to that point....

I call this 'an arc line' and can also be found on the inside of the distributor cap. Something people often overlook when there is a misfire. Sometimes the line can be so fine, it's barely visible. Well spoted.

Yes it was cheap but expensive is no guarantee of quality, it's only a guarantee that you've been done! At least I have my fleabay feedback held back in reserve so should get a refund.

Lucas used to be the dog's but recently they've started badge-engineering Interfartor stuff which can be flakey.

So - what's real Lucas and what's Intermoron? Who can tell unless you have it in your hand?

It's ironic though 'cos Lucas used to be the crappy "Prince of Darkness", then they were good (or was everyone else just "more ste"?), now they seem to be coming full circle.

Another interesting fact from today's shenanigans is that I swapped over ECU's with one in the boot (more of this on another thread) and it was running OK on that one - a bit down on power though - so I now know I have a spare I can chuck in in an emergency.
