How to remove 4 speed gearstick?

I am in the middle of pulling the gearbox from my new wedge, but in the Steve heath book it mentions using a box spanner to remove the gearstick.

I can see well around the gearbox, but am not sure what he is referring to. I have removed the 3 bolts from the gearstick top plate and it is now loose, but I still cannot remove it

Apart from that the job is not going too bad so far. The only other hitch it getting the top 2 bolts out between the bell housing and gearbox, but I have removed the bell housing to engine bolts so hopefully I can pull it back far enough to get a bit more access to split them. I'm about 2 and a half hours in so far!

if u got the 4 speed box,put them bolts back,that round dome on top taps round,its just screwed on,then the stick will come out,

No luck, coyuldnt get anything on it to get it to turn

I jus tap the bottom with a screw driver,it wil un do.

Will try again tomorrow. Still struggling with 2 bolts holding the gearbox to bellhousing so am trying to move the gearbox to get more room.

Cheers, with a fresh day and renewed patience I got the gearstick out today. A new problem now but I will start a different thread
