Man maths power to weight
Discussion
Just sat having a beer or two and wondered what sort of gain my wedge diet is going to having
Using the calcs from here http://www.tuneruniversity.com/blog/2012/03/power-...
so using conservative figures of kerb weight at 2400lbs (likely less) and Bhp of 260 (likely more)
An approx weight saving of 200lbs or 14 stone in old money. to put that into context my old seats were almost 4 stone for the pair!!! So easily achievable.
So 200lbs will give a theoretical 25bhp gain in power, that's almost 10% cool hey
Back to the beer :-)

Hi Glen - looks like yours has a removable rear bumper?
If you take it off you'll find around 20-40 4" diameter packing washers (which adjust the bumper mount).
Together these weigh around 2-3 lbs. If you make up some lighter "packing" of the same height on each side - for example a tube with a plate welded across each end then drilled for the bolt - there's a considerable weight saving there.
Also how about an alloy flywheel? A lighter starter motor? A carbon plenum? A lightweight bonnet (could be expensive unless you can get carbon nice and cheap..)?

Remove the rear seats...Ang on...It don't have any...
To be fair if you are not going to race it then i wouldn't worry too much about saving weight...I think the power to weight ratio for a road going car is more than adequate..Even more so with a supercharged V8....You could always reinstate the NOS...
Just had a brainwave...Fill some balloons with helium and stuff them in every available nook and cranny...Simples..

A lightweight bonnet could be an interesting option, good idea............will ask about in the racer section, the bonnet is quite heavyIf you take it off you'll find around 20-40 4" diameter packing washers (which adjust the bumper mount).

Also the headlights, loose the pods and do something like this.......didn't Steve Heath's Purple wedge have something similar
as for why I'm doing this, well you all know the car and its pretty well modified, so I just fancied putting my own stamp on it and plan to do a few track days, be a shame not to put all that power to good use

Had the bonnet off mine yesterday was quite surprised how much it weighed.Steve Heaths purple wedge had over 500 bhp per ton.It was a 5.2litre with a vortech supercharger, and water injected. The bonnet was off a caterham, and yes perspex windows and lamp covers.
whaaaaooow.........now that must have been fun to watch and a handful to drivewooly350i said:

No washers and bumper weighs about the same as a sill. Mr Rusty has helped on weight saving though lolIf you take it off you'll find around 20-40 4" diameter packing washers (which adjust the bumper mount).

One factor everyone is overlooking is the drag resistance of a wide tyre on the road. I recon a Wedge fitted with four narrow get you home tyres would go like a bullet, and be economic on fuel too. Has anyone tried it? No? I think someone should, and report the results. You may all be pleasantly surprised and abandon those after market blower ideas!

Jebus. Having to travel 70 odd miles on a space saver was scary, mind you the others were normal. The lorries were rocking up behind me at warp 2 and I could only do warp 1, not the usual 9. Got a few irate lorries giving me grief. May the the fleas of a thousand camels infect their @rse 'oles.

it would gain a bit of weight though, but that wouldnt be a problem,it might stop you becoming air bourne
