Chassis refurb........advice
Discussion
As you know I'm lifting the body off the wee beastie, with a view to strip and rebuild each corner myself but send off the chassis to be blasted, repaired (as there are some holes) then painted or powder coated
All straight forward so far
So the advice I'm after, looking at all the TVR specialist web sites I looks like a cost of over £1500 to do the above on the chassis (I.e. I deliver the chassis, the do the blast / repair / paint)
Then I got thinking, chassyman on here (based in redditch) does a new chassis for about 2k from memory
Then I thought someone may have a trailing arm chassis in their shed in good shape but gathering dust?
My chassis is the trailing arm 2.8i then converted to a 3.5 V8, and I noticed the bracket above the rear shocks is quite large / high, was this unique to this this early S1? So would my body ft on another chassis, say an early 3.5?
Thoughts and advice on direction please?

This topic sounds familiar
I would definitely stay with the same chassis as you know it fits as its come from the car! The only time I would opt to go for a new one is if I had no alternative and it was FUBAR'd.
Mine was about 1500 and I chose to have it zinc sprayed (galvanised) under the powder coat. The powder coat isn't actually needed but it makes it look good!
If you have any questions or want any advice just let me know. I'm sure my 400 is different but fundamentally the same.
You have a great car there and I'm really pleased its fallen into the right hands
Enjoy the job..some bits are a bit of a pain but most are just patience

If you can deliver and collect in the Dartford area Im sure £750 would be an agreeable price depending on how bad the chassis is!

Hmmm, sounds a better price. Would need to add a couple of hundred quid for trailer hire but still doable, will email for a little more details :-)

Is that a company car by chance? How much does a plain chassis weigh?
Nope, it my VW Touran, and the chassis was picked up by 2 of us!The one in the photo is a Taimar chassis, but Ive had a wedge one on there last year which still had the PS and rack on it with no problems, although it was easier with 4 people!
Its a shame you are after a trailing arm chassis as ive got a spare excellent condition A frame chassis, Im going to get it blasted, welded and powdercoated next month!
