While the engine & box are out I'm considering replacing the clutch, the friction plate seems to have a reasonable amount of life left but the cover is a bit worn on the release bearing contact face.

Is it a standard SD1 clutch or an uprated one, prices seem to vary wildly form standard from V8tuner at about £150 to AP racing from TVRpower at £sellakidney

What's everyone else running ?

I got an AP Racing AP2346-4. 120 squids plus the dreaded VAT and carriage.

I'm trying to find the supplier details.

So it shouldn't break the bank.

It has survived in the 400SX so a 400SE should be a doddle....

Right I've found one here:

http://www.burtonpower.com/ap-racing-clutch-plate-...

I don't think the "v6" is particularly relevant. Phone AP themselves to double-check the part number - seems they have changed the "AP" to "CP" in their part numbers - you can use this plate with a standard Borg+Beck cover - that's what I did.

Absolutly change the clutch for certain! You will kick yourself if you dont...

I went for an uprated one but had mine rebuilt / plated so i knew there would be no compatabiity problems (over the years i have steered to rebuild rather than replace).

Got this done at a place near me called Orca. Change the thrust bearing too.

Bearing was £36 (bearing pressed onto my ali shaft) and clutch was £174 with the dreaded VAT.

Here were some pics of when i got it back.

Cant say how good it is yet (havent really driven it) but i had the maserati one done and that will not slip regardless smile

Look at a reinforced clutch fork.

Same one in the Gredge (Borg & Beck) plus I did the uprated metal cased release bearing rather than the cheapo plastic bodied one, and my version of the clutch lever strengthening mod. ====>

Thanks for the replies, I have been trying to find a AP CP2000-13 clutch kit which is rated at 270 Lb/ft but they seem to be on a 4 week lead time regardless and I'm not sure my old man will be happy about his garage floor being tied up for another 4 weeks..

I've found an even stronger option rated at 340 Lbs/ft but that seems overkill for a 400 (mind you it may allow for future forced induction) Racetech also list a full kit for the 400 / 430 but there is no spec on it, it just says TVR OE - which frankly could mean anything.

I've also been in touch with Orca to see what they can do with my old unit !

Didn't burtonpower have any in stock? AP are very helpful if you ring them they will also tell you which dealer has taken stock of a particular clutch - by part number.

That one should be good for 340lbf I think.

Try fleabay item 250922666994, I've seen them cheaper but this is reasonable.

Or - even cheaper - http://www.thexmod.com/item_detail.asp?id=4385

Interesting thread here... http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid...

I don't see why the Landy one won't fit, and they are much cheaper, but good quality.
