77% or 74%, so it's about the same percentage loss.

Oh dear me!

Is this why the bigger V8's seem reluctant to go on the rollers in public?

Chris.

To be honest I am pleased to see some realistic stock TVR / RV8 dyno numbers....... Especially on the black 420 as stated the other one needs work, the Gredge 500 with its worked Griff HC motor and induction work is doing a realistic 287 BHp and 314 Ft lbs and not the 300 plus quoted figs for the Griff. I will need MS or emerald to get close to the 300 barrier but she is fast enough at the moment thumbup

I think there's a culture in performance car circles..particularly TVRs for over claiming/embellishing bhp figures. Truer, realistic figures, especially if on the low side, get quietly hidden away. In some ways it's part ego..I think we all want our cars to be kicking out 300bhp at the wheels, but the reality is usually quite different. wink
And yes, I'm scared to put my car on the rollers, incase she goes ahead, and proves the theory by stomping out a magnificent 110bhp!! hehe

To give you a comparison and make you feel not so inadequate whistle

My Chimaera had a new engine last year.
5 litre RV8, cross bolted and balanced, built by V8 Developments. Stage 3 heads, fully ported, larger plenum, injectors and AFM, lightened flywheel, but still on the Lucas ECU.

I expected 330 bhp at the fly.
I got 300 bhp at the fly.
And 330 lbs ft of torque.

The point being that the claimed numbers per TVR were quite a long way from the truth.....

My previous, very healthy (new cam, Mark Adams map etc) Chim 430 made 193 at the wheels a few years ago.......

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5qNI-_s5Lo

& my previous Griff 500 made 200 at the wheels but the cam was a little worn.

On the other hand my 450SE made 227 at the wheels... biggrin

Always thought it was the exhaust manifolds on the wedge that held back bhp figures, compared to the griffs etc.The rv8 heads are the limiting factors for big bhp, though could be wrong rolleyes

Some interesting figures, good to see your wedge was champion!

A Dyno is the best way to give an idea of what is happening..Here is Poppy recently filmed on her first Dyno run..Ignore the black smoke as she was over fuelling a little which was turned down a bit...

I was very happy with the result.

Delilah at BBWF2012 made 107bhp which was embarrassing especially as she was 119db...laugh..But i redeemed myself at BBWF2013 even though she wasn't running 100% as the supercharging project was new ground..She made 209bhp with 190ftlbs of torque..

VIDEO
I still chuckle at the tester laughing at the backfiring....

I have an 300 extra cc than the 500 and have 326 bhp and 365 lb of torque following a remap by Jools. Not sure what TVR claimed they should have?

I think they claimed the Griff 500 was good for 320 bhp. Lies, damned lies and TVR statistics.

Did you get 300 at the fly, or was that a wheel figure translated to fly?

The latter, but as translated by the equipment at Surrey Rolling Road.

Wayne do you know what cam they put into the Griff motor in your SEAC? My Griff HC motor in the Gredge has the Kent 214 and worked heads / valves and probably close to the so called stage 3 prep. What I need to do is have the same guy as Graham (5.3) to do a bespoke map for my car yes

I believe it's a Kent 218 Chris.. with enlarged ACT carbon trumpets, enlarged inlet manifold/throttle body, ported heads, ACT carbon plenum.
